Customer Reviews
Doesnt really work as it should.
Since no one has taken the time to give a review of the product I'll go ahead and give a quick one. The product really isnt that good. Yes it's nice that its native and you can at least IM while on the iphone. However, if you do not have the program up on your iphone it doesnt give you alerts that you have an IM. If your phone locks it will disconnect you from the AIM service. This should function exactly like the SMS service does. I should be able to sign in to AIM and get IMs no matter what other app I am working in or if my phone is locked. I hope this gets improved.
It's good, but needs improvements
As with everyone else, I was excited to see a native AIM client come to the iPhone, finally. That was my biggest gripe when it first came out and the one thing I was looking forward to in 2.0. Sure, it "gets the job done", but there are two things that really need to be fixed.
PUSH NOTIFICATIONS - Yes, I understand that the iPhone doesn't have true background processes, and this is partially the phone itself and not the application, but 15 minutes too long to check between messages. The point of having a mobile app like this is so that you can be reached whenever.
CONNECTION ISSUE - It seems that if I am not active for 5-6 minutes, I am logged off. This also goes with the 15 minute thing for messages, if I'm not logged in for that long, how am I supposed to get them? (I am interested in knowing if this happens to anyone else, so if you have input on this subject, please contact me @ whereswegoh on AIM)
I'm sure these issues will be addressed in the coming weeks, though I am kind of waiting to see if Adium will put out their own application.
Worked for 5 minutes
I installed AIM this morning, and it worked great for all of 5 minutes. Now every time I launch it, it immediately crashes and I am returned to the home screen.
