Can't be used with just a Twitter account
Twinkle won't work unless you sign up for a Tapulous account in addition to your Twitter account. The location-based services are also dependent upon it -- so you're not finding nearby Twitter users, you're finding nearby Tapulous users.
The interface, while no question colorful, is poor overall. Low-contrast orange on yellow and purple on lilac text is hard to read and there's much wasted space throughout. Even using smaller fonts and tighter leading than Twitteriffic, Twinkle still manages to show fewer tweets per screen.
I'm looking forward to the perfect Twitter client. Unfortunately, Twinkle isn't quite there yet.
great interface, great service, one dealbreaker.
I loved Twinkle from the moment I first used it a month or so ago. The new version of the app has a more polished look and some nice features. However, the need to sign up for a Tapulous account on top of the twitter account was a headscratcher. And unfortunately, Tapulous has no privacy settings, so anything I post from Twinkle isn't really protected from prying eyes the way twitter posts are. Other than that, fantastic app and a great add-on to the Twitter API.
Best Twitter App - Hands Down
Twinkle is by far the best twitter app that we have seen come through the appstore.
Some of you may be familiar with Twinkle. I'll be happy to report that it is MUCH improved from the already amazing original version.
The first thing that will strike you is the gorgeous updated GUI (Graphical User Interface). The starry background that you see while navigating all the different menus, reading people's tweets, or viewing their profiles just plain fits; it's amazing.
What separates twinkle out from other twitter apps found on the iPhone is it's location-awareness. Basically it searches for other tweets posted within a certain radius of you (changable from 10 miles to 1,000 miles and everything in between). The amazing thing about this is that it lets you see what people are doing locally - right in your own city. Twinkle can list all the "local" tweets in a separate window for you, so you can take a look and see what's going on locally or go to your usual timeline and see what people you are following are doing. Very useful.
Twinkle also lets you follow people that you find near you right from within the app - so if you happen to find an old friend you had no idea uses twitter you can follow them right on the spot, read his / her recent tweet history, and then send them a direct message to catch up on old things. All in one place!
