FIX FOR OS3.0 BETA 4 USERS
I found a fix for all the crashing... follow closely:
1) Press your home button and launch the iPhone settings.
2) Turn on Airplane Mode. This is just temporary and will help keep the app from crashing.
3) Launch the Etrade App. It is the "Dashboard" that is causing the crash so you need to select the "I" in the lower right hand screen and scroll down the list and turn off "Markets Overview" and "Quote Details". This is the culprit. These are the ENEMY!
4) Now close the app by pressing the home button and go turn off airplane mode.
5) Presto! The app works!
All I can say is WOW
E*Trade does not joke around when it comes to this app. Whether the app writers are motivated by the iPhones abilities or they were vying for the coveted design awards, style and functionality are obviously a focus.
If you've ever used the actual web interface at etrade.com, you'll know what to expect ( why else would you want this app ). But don't think of some watered down front end that you'll see with other vendors. You can do pretty much anything you would want to do on the go with your account. The program takes up the entire screen and is pretty customizable too.
Anyway, if you have E*Trade, just get this app and try it out. You won't be disappointed.
BAD FOR OPTIONS, charts are below par; but shows some promise.
Overall, this application shows some promise, but it needs to work out some glitches that, if not resolved, may prove to be catastrophic.
At this time, there seems to be some kind of data glitch with certain options.
For example, one of the options in my portfolio is a Morgan Stanley (MS) Call option (MS May29 Call).
E-Trade's PC program lists it as "MS EC" while the iPhone application lists it as "MSEC."
My portfolio correctly displays the basic data. But, when I attempt to view more detail, the application displays some defunct NASDAQ STOCK that shares the same name "MSEC" (aka MSE Cable Systems Inc). When I attempt to look up the "MS EC" option in the QUOTES function, I have to manually search "Call Options" for MS which displays the correct result in a list. But, when I select the option, the NASDAQ stock MSEC is displayed instead of the option. In addition to displaying the "Cable Systems" basic data (which is all zeros), the "Company News" section below shows Morgan Stanley events.
On a separate note, I would like for the charts to be more interactive. I hate to compare it to the TDAmeritrade app; but so far, the E-Trade Mobile app needs some improvement (i.e. being able to zoom in on the charts and allowing options data such as Open Interest and Volume to be more readily available).
This makes me very wary of using this application for options trading at this time, but I am sure it will eventually grow into an impressive platform.
