Beautiful Looking but I cannot trust the navigation
I have been interested in getting this app for some time, and decided to try it when the price was temporarily lowered in November. Having tested this out now for fewf weeks or so, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot trust this as my main navigation application. I've experienced several problems, some minor annoyances and others more serious. Starting with a minor annoyance, I cannot save my Home destination, as I have tried numerous times to enter the address and save it as my home, but after I exit the app, the next time I push the "take me home" button, it makes me enter my address all over again! I was able to save it as a favorite, and also it's in the recent section, but this is highly annoying. Next annoyance is that there is no apparent way to organize the favorites. I am used to Garmin PND's and they usually display your favorites by distance, from least to furthest--this is at least something, as I hate to have to scroll through my favorites, flicking until I find the one I want. Another annoyance, more serious to me, is the lack of a written step by step route summary (many others have mentioned this). I would like to be able to preview the route, or even better, choose between different types of routes. If there's an easy way to do this, I haven't found it. In fact, the lack of support and documentation for this application is appalling. The most serious problem I have encountered, however is this: Often, it sends me in a completely wrong direction! Perhaps because of the traffic rerouting (which you cannot necessarily prevent), it has suggested several times sending me in the total opposite direction--since I knew where I was going already, I ignored it, and it rerouted me quickly and correctly in most cases. However, if I didn't know where I was going or in a strange town, I'd wind up hopelessly lost or late. Just to see what would happen I did allow it to reroute me in what seemed like the wrong direction in Boston, and it sent me so far out of my way I had to turn my Garmin Nuvi on just to get where I was going from where it sent me. Since I also have the Nuvi, I have simultaneously run this application, the Nuvi and also the Google Maps Nav on my corporate phone, the Droid. The Navigon usually took the slowest and least efficient route (again, because I know which routes are the best in my area for the most part), with the Nuvi the clear winner in every case. So I've decided that I wasted my $$$ on this application, and would only use it when I knew where I was going already, since the UI is absolutely gorgeous, the onscreen info is good, the speed limit and warnings are annoying but useful, and I really wish I could trust this app and ditch my nuvi to have less to carry--that's the point of using my iPhone anyway (I have it mounted with an FM transmitter/mount/charger) and it would be great to have one device do it all for me in the car. I'm hoping for an update to the app that would fix some or all of these problems, but some of the navigational errors are so shockingly wrong that I'm dumbfounded and not sure I can ever trust the app. I wrote to Navigon's support re: the inability to save my home address, but haven't heard anything and it's been a few weeks. It's disappointing, and frankly the Google app may become better than anything in time, but that is my work phone, and I don't take it with me when I'm not doing business, so it would be an extra device, also. Oh well.
A very competent GPS...

Navigon 1.2.0
Once again, I've used this app everyday since the below review (I use it to and from work, while running errands, and while traveling on weekends - just to test reliability) and I have to re-emphasize that this app is an absolutely reliable and quality GPS navigation device - all on my iPhone. I've been out driving with the new additions and it only makes this app better. I'd change my review to 6-stars if I could. I want to reiterate that I use an iPhone 3G (not a 3GS) and the app runs famously. When using the app in my truck, it sits in the center console and never has issues with satellite reception. I've added a velcro strip to the fairing on my motorcycle and it changes the way I ride due to the high-degree of accuracy of voice prompts - now with text to speech, it is incredible! I've read other reviews about needing a 3G or EDGE connection for the app to work - which is rediculous. On my long motorcycle trip mentioned below, there were several lapses in 3G/EDGE coverate (ie "no service"), but the app only requires reception from GPS satellites (hence the term "GPS"). This was a perfect app that is now exponentially better - and I'm sure future updates by Navigon will raise the standard as it has with its past two releases!

Navigon 1.1.0
Update: I've used this app everyday since my trip below and I haven't had a problem with GPS reception, using the "Take Me Home" feature, or really anything else - to include solid directions from place-to-place. The visual display on this app is equally as good, if not better, than any other stand-alone personal navigation device (PND). Now that the app optimizes the iTunes volume to allow me to hear voice prompts I am updating my rating to 5 stars. This is everything you could ask for from a PND in your iPhone!!!

Navigon 1.0.0
I watched this application and told myself I'd buy it when it reached a cumulative "4 star" rating. My wife and I took a motorcycle ride from NC to KY with my "blackberry savvy" wife getting tired of reading the Google Map directions on my iPhone while passing through towns and while looking for hotels and restaurants. While at a friend's house in KY I noticed this app reached "4 stars" (on my iPhone, anyway) so I bought it. It took about 2 hours on WiFi to download directly to the phone. I didn't do a single thing after installation - no resetting, restarting, re-doing anything as some reviews say they've had to. I started it up and it started working. Not being prepared to use it with the motorcycle, the iPhone went back to where it usually travels - rubber banded to the top of the brake fluid reservoir on the handlebar. The iPhone was plugged into the "line-in" on the stereo - the power cord connected as usual. We navigated for 3 days - through towns - to hotels - to restaurants - through the mountains - ONLY BY THE VOICE COMMANDS provided by the Navigon AG app! Other than ONE time of the app becoming "confused" in the mountains (it lasted for about 2 minutes), the app performed flawlessly! I was amazed! All of the voice commands were RIGHT on spot and we didn't miss a turn. I can't yet comment on the visual display because I didn't use it once. I ABSOLUTELY agree that the app needs to drown out the iPod when it gives directions (I did turn the iPod off when we got critically close to our destination to make sure I didn't miss commands). Depending on the type of music there is potential to miss a cue when the iPod is playing, but because the app sends multiple alerts before the actual turn, it's easy to catch at least a few commands. Overall I am extremely impressed with this app - especially after being so hesitant to download it after reading reviews. I would give it 5 stars if I didn't have to shut my music off to ensure I heard the directions. Looking forward to future updates!!!!
Disappointed
I bought this, got in my car, and proceeded to drive around.
It keeps telling me it can't get a good signal lock. I can switch to google maps and it finds me within 10 seconds.
i drove around for an hour with a red banner that said 'GPS' in this app - and no movement on the app. I can only imagine this means it's having trouble locating me with the GPS.
I have a new iPhone 3GS 16GB. This shouldn't work this way.
1 star.
