Ok app
I had really high hopes for this app, but eye candy aside, it's not ready for prime time. No landscape mode, have to sign up for a Trillian account, hardly works at all on cellular, lots of little bugs, messages sometimes come really slow, nicknames don't show up correctly. Anyway, waste of 5 bucks.
Disappointing, better IM clients currently.
I was really looking forward to Trillian on the iPhone but it's a bit of a disappointment. It's background options are limited (e.g you can only stay logged in for 24 hours, can't configure how long before you are "away", or when push occurs) and it's main menu is poorly designed. For example 1/4 of the main screen is taken up displaying MY picture and MY name - what a complete waste of space. There's also no support for displaying offline users, which is annoying if you have family/friends who like to stay invisible but are happy to chat.
The best thing I can say about Trillian is that it's only $5, and the company have a long history of support so hopefully things will improve. Until then I'll keep "'jive'ing" with my current app.
Does not meet expectations
I think my expectations were too high for this app after having used Trillian for years on windows. First, there is no landscape keyboard support which I use a lot as it is much easier to type. Secondly, you can not modify the groups (maybe a bug) or put contacts in different groups. Third, the top of the contact screen is taken up with my avatar and is a waste of space, and lastly there is no way to delete all on the chat list. It just seems that the folks at Cerulean Studios never used the competition's IM clients to see what works well and what doesn't.
Now on to the food stuff. This app is half the price of beehive unless they've lowered their price. It seems to work well with what it does as well as sync contact lists across various platforms. Chatting is fluid and fast as well as the notifications. Adding accounts is easy and seamless.
As a beta tester on the windows client (before moving to a mac) I can recommend it as being exceptional. Unfortunately the Trillian iPhone app is not. 3 stars.
