Album Review

Swing Swang Swung, Guardian's third release, is a failed experiment with acoustic folk music. While a few chords and riffs appear in the songs from time to time, the balance on the album is poor and most of the melodies fail to even be catchy. No matter how hard it tries, "The Way Home Back" never provides a decent hook and is just as dull as the rest of the album. Swing Swang Swung is hardly as strong as any of Guardian's previous music, and it shows a midpoint of departure from their classic rock & roll, evident on their follow-up, Buzz.

Awesome Album!!!

This album is a great listen all the way through. While "See You in Heaven" represents Guardians biggest CHR (Christian Hit Radio) hit, there are other standouts like the catchy "C'mon Everyone", the road-tripable "Endless Summer" and the hillarious "Preacher and the Bear". I would be remiss to not list this in the top 20 albums of the 1990's.

Top notch album

Swing Swang Swung is one of my favorite albums of all time. I think they have a great mix of fun songs, sad songs, and serious songs. See You in Heaven is one of the best tribute songs I have ever heard done. I used to have the cassette tape and I wore that thing out within in a year.

Not A Popular Opinion

I'm a long-time Guardian fan who felt really let down by this album. The guys are extremely talented, no doubt, but this felt like a disc full of leftovers from other projects or songs that just didn't fit in with the themes elsewhere. I do like "The Way Home Back", and I felt that "Preacher and the Bear" was clever and funny, but overall this really isn't among their best work. It's okay to be a fan, and not like this. Though I'm sure the "faithful" will flame me for this one. Buzz and Bottle Rocket (part of that same era) were much better.
