Awesome Stuff
by BennoCCCBrenton Brown is a gifted songwriter and talented musician. He has such a heart for helping people connct to God, and writes out of a deep honesty. Since his days working with then-Vineyard's Brian Doerksen, I have really been moved by his song-writing. Hearing him do his own classics, and adding new ones like "Everlasting God" and "Hosanna" (even though others recorded them first) is just awesome. I admit that, as a worship leader myself, I prefer Brenton's more simple/honest approach to these songs. Keep it up, Brenton. God is using you mightily.
Represents the best of modern worship
by BuckeyesNut21Brenton Brown is one of the few modern worship leaders that is both a great musician and songwriter. He seems to be able to avoid most of the worship lyric cliches and shallowness so prevalent today. The song "Hosanna" makes for an excellent opening song for praise and worship. The first 8 songs are very solid and any of them would made a wonderful addition to a praise and worship set. The only weakness of the album is that it finishes somewhat poorly. His re-write of "Well With My Soul" really stands out as a mistake in my mind. Other than that, this album comes highly recommended!
I think people are missing the point...
by Sir Articulate"Everlasting God" (made extremely popular by Chris Tomlin, who usually sings his own material) is Brenton Brown's song. All of this music is HIS stuff! That's the point of this CD. He has been writing for the Vineyard music conglomerate, and so his songs are being sung by every Tom-Dick-and-Harry out there in the worship music scene. But on this CD he gathers together his own work and you get to hear the Writer's versions of his own music.
So if you feel like you've heard "Hosanna" before (Paul Baloche, etc.) and "Lord, Reign in Me" or "Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)"--which my church choir LOVED doing last year--don't consider Mr. Brown's renditions to be the trite, copycat versions. Remember, immitation is the highest form of flattery. This CD is a repository for popular Worship music--he can't help it. It's what he does (and what God clearly is doing through him.)
Other artists and worship leaders recognize how solid this stuff is...Let it lift you up!
