Album Review
The Jesus Record is a bittersweet testament to the late Rich Mullins, who died in an auto accident shortly before he would have started the album. The first disc of the two-CD set contains the demos for The Jesus Record, all of which are performed by Mullins alone, accompanied either by a piano or guitar. Mullins never had the opportunity to properly record these songs. Instead, the Ragamuffin Band recorded them officially, with vocalists like Phil Keaggy, Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith filling in for Mullins on vocals. It's an affecting tribute to Mullins' talent — not only are the demos quite moving, but the completed record nearly matches those peaks. Either way, it's a nice way to say goodbye to one of the major forces in '90s CCM.

Wonderful Album. Gorgeous Music and SImple Expressions of Faith
by Yalegirl03I love this album. I bought it years ago anf every now and then I play it and am blown away by the beauty of the songs. They are simple and profound expressions of faith and contemplations on the life of Jesus. I love all of the songs, but my favorites are That Where I am There You, My Deliverer, You Did Not Have a Home, Man of No Reputation and Surely God is With Us. That Where I Am always brings a smile to my face and lightens my heart. The demo versions are just as wonderful as the fleshed out versions and sometimes better. I have never cared that much for Amy Grant's singing, so on the track Nothing is Beyond You, I prefer the demo. Rich Mullin was a great songwriter. I find so much of popular contemporary Christian music too poppy or with weak lyrics, but Rich Mullins is always quality. I think this album was his greatest work. What a gift to leave behind and what a great act of worship.
Love the Demo's; Dislike the Studio Mix
by alldaneFor my taste, the demo tracks are the only good tracks. All the studio tracks are just too slick and polished.
Last Few Days on Earth
