Album Review
Longtime Faith No More guitarist Jim Martin split from the band under less-than-amicable circumstances in 1994. Consequently, the group hired Trey Spruance (the guitarist from Mike Patton's other band, Mr. Bungle) to handle six-string duties for 1995's King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime. While it wasn't exactly the mind-bending masterpiece that 1992's Angel Dust was, it was easily their most musically straightforward album and was another challenging, exceptional release. As on Angel Dust, Patton truly shines on vocals, as he tackles any genre put in front of him — romantic love songs (the soulful smooth funk of "Evidence"), bile-spitting rants of hate ("The Gentle Art of Making Enemies"), cacophonous freak-outs ("Ugly in the Morning"), gospel (the lighthearted album closer, "Just a Man"), and breezy pop ("Caralho Voador"). But there was also plenty of FNM's signature heavy sound to go around — the furious opener "Get Out," "Ricochet," "Cuckoo for C**a," "Digging the Grave," "The Last to Know," and the almost progressive title track. While Spruance did a masterful job of filling in the shoes of an integral founding member, he abruptly split from the band himself on the eve of the album's ensuing worldwide tour (replaced by roadie Dean Mentia). King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime remains one of Faith No More's underrated releases.

My Favorite FNM Album
by LordoftheMorning71I had the casette tape years ago and have been waiting for iTunes to get this. After listening to it again, i still have to say this is my favorite FNM album. Thanks i Tunes!! I am so happy to be able to listen to this again!
a perfect album
by EterronesTo me, FNM was in their prime in this album. This is their punk album where the intruments are stripped down to very few effects. The keyboards aren't as apparent as previous albums. The arena rock sound from the real thing is gone. The theatrical side from Angel Dust is gone. During this time, Mike Patton was working off and on with John Zorn and his vocals reflect that raw emotional intensity with little effects. Every song on this album is golden. The epics like Just a man and the quick rawness of ugly in the morning are equally good. Trey Spruance fills in this job perfectly to help create an album that dosn't exist in a particular time setting. Spruance's riffs/compositions are matured but can be fun, humorous and filled with passion. This is perfect for FNMs tongue in cheak approach to rock music. This album is perfect, timeless and for any real music fan's collection.
Faith No More's Best and Most Underrated Album Ever
by Michael Mc MetalThis album doesn't get much love. Everyones either into the good, but bland after a while funk metal of The Real Thing, or the expieremental, yet overrated, Angel Dust. It starts with a furious opening of Get Out. Ricochet is a great single by the band, and Evidence gets you ready for some heavy tracks. TGAOMEis a SOAD like anger anthem, Star A.D. is a jazzy song, and Cuckoo for C**a is a disturbing, yet compelling song. Take This Bottle is a beautiful western song. King For A Day is a catchy progressive track. If you liked Midlife Crisis, you'll love that one. The album ends with an amazing gospel song Just a Man. Album of the Year wasn't the best ender. If this was their last album, I would be happy.
