Album Review
Genius or lunacy — take your pick. But either way, give credit to Aaron Weiss and gang for another unique taste of Christian indie rock sentiment. In more of his half-shouting, stream-of-consciousness style, Weiss throws any sense of traditional song form out the door. Lyrically speaking, Brother, Sister is more cryptic and nonsensical than almost anything else in Tooth & Nail Records' catalog. It proves an arduous task to identify any faith-based themes on the disc besides a desperate plea to reconcile one's place before God. Although there is less pounding rock than on its debut album, the group continues to explore sounds that make you want to shudder and tap along simultaneously. The one theme appears to be an obsession with mischievous critters — spiders, porcupines, and wolves, to name a few. You'll either "get it" or you won't, but you definitely won't forget the eccentric sound of this oft-loved band.

One of the most unique bands today.
by lost_at_seamewithoutYou really shines through this release; it is more of the same stream-of-consciousness lyricism and vocal, along with amazing instrumentation. It is obvious that they are heading toward more of a mature sound; it is evidenced through the slower acoustic songs such as "Yellow Spider" and "Brownish Spider". The lyrics, as usual, do not make much sense on the surface, but the passion is evidenced through songs such as "Wolf Am I! (And Shadow)", and "In A Sweater Poorly Knit". I would say that they are the best Christian band out there right now, in terms of originality (and I am including underOATH, peeps!). One of my favorite albums, hands down.

Love this!
by caitica86mewithoutYou is absolutely amazing. They are musical geniuses, the drumming is excellent and the matching of the instrumentation to the lyrics is intensely effective. On top of that are Aaron Weiss' lyrics- I was surprised when the iTunes review said that religious overtones are difficult to pick out, Aaron's relationship with the Lord and observations as a Christian are the subject of every single song the band puts out. His delivery doesn't make sense to everyone; his... vocalizations sound like inner monologues more than any singing. However, this is appropriate in light of how powerfully honest and emotional the lyrics are. Moreso than any other band I have ever heard. EVER. If you like the album, you MUST see them live, everything makes even more sense.
