iTunes Review

California duo the Bird and the Bee’s self-titled full-length is grabbing attention for “F***ing Boyfriend,” singer Inara George’s plaint to her should-be lover (“Are you an amateur?” she wonders of his apparent disinterest). It’s hardly the only small miracle on this lounge-pop wonder, though. “I’m a Broken Heart” is, like most of these tracks, a display of lovely unhappiness; George’s musical partner Greg Kurstin’s arrangement makes it sound like what would’ve happened had Burt Bacharach wandered into the studio while Brian Wilson was cutting Pet Sounds. “Again & Again,” about a compulsive sexual relationship (and sexier-sounding than that description implies), could be what happens after George’s character wins the guy in “Boyfriend.” And while “My Fair Lady” swears to “take it all with little grains of salt,” “La La La” is a truly sunny reverie.

An amazingly innovative and FANTASTIC work.

it's self explanitory. my ONLY criticism is that the title of "boyfriend" wasn't necessary, and although it's a great song, the f-work really wasn't needed

I dig this disc. I was a fan of Greg Kurstin when he was in Geggy Tah, so this seems to be a natural progression for him. Kurstin is super talented. Inara George has a great voice for this music. This disc is worth the price and just darn good music.

Original and honest. What more do you want?

A mix of old time swing and techno (with lots of quirky pitches and instruments thrown in between), The Bird and the Bee capture emotions on a wide variety of topics with such honesty. I love this album...the compositions and lyrics are highly original and memorable that will leave you singing each song over and over again. Definitely worth a listen...or two...or three...
