iTunes Review

More outrageous than Bowie and flashier than Bolan, Brian Eno presented himself as one of the most outlandish stars of the glam rock era. Though he moved like a rock star during his tenure with Roxy Music, many fans no doubt wondered exactly what this strange vampiric looking knob twiddler was actually doing on stage, as he played no conventional instruments and boasted frequently of his musical amateurism. All such queries would be lain aside in 1974 when Eno released Here Come The Warm Jets the first in a series of deliriously fractured pop records whose revolutionary sounds would turn rock music on its ear. Even today, the opening blast of “Needle in the Camel’s Eye” sounds like a message from the future, with its layered guitar tracks phased into dreamy oblivion underlying Eno’s sinister croon. Though Eno himself was a musical amateur, he directs his handpicked team of collaborators, including King Crimson’s Robert Fripp and a large part of Roxy Music’s lineup, with visionary boldness, placing jarring moments of virtuosity amidst a madman’s collage of found sounds and treated effects. Yet for all of Eno’s experimental brio, the music here, from the loungey swing of “Cindy Tells Me” to the excoriating dirge that is “Baby’s on Fire, is unabashedly pop. Sweetly accessible and yet musically adventurous, Here Come The Warm Jets is one of the most important records of the early seventies.

eno is the man!!

iwas 13yrs old in 1975 when my older brother turned me on to the 'warm jets' album by brian eno and it just blew me away -- without out fail this is one of the few albums to this day-(35yrs later)that still has the same effectas it did in '75'! between eno and king crimsons robert fripp (who in my opinion is one of the most under-rated guitarests of our time)you couldnt ask for more of a 'in-your face' originallity, especially when all the music back then more or less sounded like it came off an assembly line.when all is said and done brian eno is a musical genius and his music-esspecially 'here come the warm jets' will last far into the next millenioum aside other classics like sgt peppers+the white album by the beatles for starters--hats off to the vampire-of glam rock- and roxy music was nothing without him!!!!!

Just thought I would pile on the reviews that already say it perfectly. Here Come The Warm Jets is a gem, a masterpiece, a perfect nugget in a vast ocean of mediocrity. If you don't own this work...get it and learn it. I have been lucky enough to have lived with the music of Eno (and Fripp) for over 30 years...and it keeps coming (the new Byrne and Eno is refreshing and Fripp recently retooled King Crimson again). You don't know anything about modern music if you don't know Eno and this piece of work. Period!

Absolute Masterpiece

I have a hard time inducting albums into my personal hall of fame, but this one is the first one in many years to make it in. My boyfriend introduced me to it, and I must say it is absolutely SUPERB!!! Eno's a genius! Every song is brilliant, in order, but my personal favourites would have to be Driving Me Backwards, Cindy Tells Me and Baby's On Fire. Seriously, though... give it a listen, and you'll see what I mean.
