Album Review

Best known as the drummer/vocalist for Underoath, Aaron Gillespie just can't stop the music from coming out of him, as he launched a one-man band, the Almost, during the early 21st century. The Almost's debut full-length, Southern Weather, followed in 2007, and proves that Gillespie must be quite a creative deciding factor in his full-time band, as the material is — for the most part — quite Underoath-esque. There are a few pleasant surprises however, such as a collaboration with Jeremy Enigk of the Fire Theft and Sunny Day Real Estate fame (the latter band is often considered the original emo band — a style that Underoath specializes in), on the country-tinged ballad "Dirty and Left Out." But mostly, it's emo-rock that rules the day, especially such selections as the album-opening "Say This Sooner" and "I Mostly Copy Other People." Underoath fans will surely be proud of Gillespie and his one-man band.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

Aaron is amazing in this song. The songs all are greatly sung and are great lyrically. Not only that, but it shows some christian things such as a quote from amazing grace, which is awesome for all the christian rock listeners. It kind of reminds me of UnderOath minus the screaming, which I really prefer over screaming. Definitely my favorite album and Say This Sooner is a MUST GET.
Oh yeah, the only complaint I have is that iTunes messed up the songs in this album. Most of the songs have the wrong titles for some odd reason so I hope that gets fixed.

Amazing

Okay, let's start off with this. I was at a The Almost concert, and I met Aaron Gillespie.
He put his arm around me, introduced me to his wife, signed a whole bunch of stuff for me, took pictures with me, and talked to me for 30 minutes[me being a fellow drummer].
This c.d is amazing, and he recorded EVERY instrument himself[exept on a couple of songs].

This c.d is a "must have".

Biography

Formed: 2005 in Salt Lake City, UT

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

The Almost is an emo solo project by Aaron Gillespie, drummer and occasional lead singer for Underoath, the Christian metalcore outfit he co-founded in 1998. Choosing to come out from behind the skins like his idol Dave Grohl before him, the Florida-bred Gillespie (who relocated to Salt Lake City in early 2007, following his marriage) wanted to explore a different outlet for his songwriting outside of his hard-hitting main gig. Written as Underoath was recording their critically acclaimed 2006 album...
