Coldplay's ascension as the rock gods of the new millennium rivals that of Nirvana's just ten years earlier. Both were unwitting heroes of a rock scene desperate for a leader, and both donned their crowns with great reluctance. Unlike Nirvana, Coldplay chose the dream-pop route on their debut, with exquisitely executed melodies, mesmerizing guitar hooks, and just enough soul-searching substance to offset the band's gorgeous simplicity. The result is possibly the best pop debut of the decade, and worth every ounce of attention it received. Key tracks; "Yellow," "Don't Panic," "Trouble," and "Proof."

I definitely recommend these. Listen to "We Never Change," and after a few listens, a likeness to George Harrison really becomes clear. The rest of the album follows suit in its meditative mood. Yellow is the climax, and the album falls into a dark valley gliding along like a dream, until finally the sun rises again with "Everything's Not Lost." The album is simply wonderful.

Though this album is a bit more quiet and acousticlly driven (the exception being Shiver, one of Coldplay's most rockin' songs), it STILL is too great to be true. Few bands have ever done THIS well on their first album...but it is common habit with Coldplay :)!

How could one better describe this absolutely Brilliant CD other than Brilliant?!? Chris has an amazing voice (and is TOTALLY hot!) and Will, Jonny, and Guy are his amazingly Brilliant band mates. I love Coldplay, and this may or may not (probably after X&Y) me favorite CD ever!!!!!!!!!! It's utter Brilliance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
