iTunes Review

As the consummate professional, Paul McCartney can play anything. But McCartney’s ability to make it sound easy doesn’t mean it ever is. The ‘80s offered the experienced performer a few intriguing challenges as productions leaned towards the slicker, mechanical ways of drum machines and processed backing tracks that often blurred the sonic picture until a song’s simple beauty was lost in a mix of keyboards, horns and hyperactive vocals. McCartney works to keep the balance. “Stranglehold” begins things on the upbeat and uses the extremely busy production to layer a nicely kept pop tune. “Good Times Coming/Feel the Sun” squares up a Caribbean, new wave groove. “Only Love Remains” is a standard McCartney piano ballad that sounds so immediately familiar it seems to have always existed. “Press” immerses itself in the joys of synthesizer technology and McCartney’s never failing pop instincts to keep things catchy and fun using modern production techniques to his advantage.

I love Paul McCartney. He's my bloody hero. I love all of his songs and such. Sadly,........ I can't really make myself like this one.... I really only like 'Once Upon a Long Ago' and 'Stranglehold'. My advice: buy those songs if you want to, but (it kills me to say this) leave the rest...

Paul"s Pressed to Play

By the sounds of it Paul must be pressed to play. Pressed to Play is not one of Pauls best albums. Although his music is always interesting to listen to, his lyrics could use a little more effort here. It could be alot better considering where he has come from and what he has accomplished. My chief complaint about Paul and all his albums is that they are inconsistent He tries to do too much.He does a love song ,a rocker a fun song. All this stretches his ability and makes for weak material.. There are 1 or 2 good songs on each album and the rest of the songs are fair to lame. This remains true for this album or cd . Here the strong songs here in my opinion are "Stranglehold" and "Only Love Remains". Although"Press" is a good sounding song ,it along with the other songs just can't compete with what Paul has done before. The album may be worth buying for the extra tracks like "Spies like Us" that were not included on the original album but I would stick to buying the stronger single tracks .
