iTunes Review

Produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla and augmented by Weezer’s Matt Sharp, AFI’s Hunter Burgan and Kaki King, Tegan and Sara’s fourth album, 2007’s The Con, is a major step towards a polished, professional rock sound without losing the giddy enthusiasm that’s made them a notable draw. Whereas previous releases captured the spunky identical twin sisters’ spare immediacy — folk-rock informed by bubblegum pop — The Con never shies from using the entire recording studio to mine a grander style. Still, the Canadian duo haven’t lost their knack for fluffy, goofy melodies or that bizarre telepathy that makes their moves sound like you’re hearing double. “Back In Your Head” pulses with an early ‘80s New Wave urgency. “Hop a Plane” employs the tight guitar chords of the early Cars. The retro-techno of “Are You Ten Years Ago,” with its primitive thumping beats, weightless synths and the duo’s quick-stepping mantra-like recitation, sounds like a real trip back to the future. Their sense of fun never abandons them. From beginning to end, the beat goes on.

Brilliant

It is so rare to find an artist or band where you can listen to every one of their albums and singles and enjoy them all. Normally when listening to an album you feel the need to skip over a few songs. I have never once felt the need to do that on any of Tegan and Sara's albums. They are brilliant musicians who are not afraid to speak their mind, share their life stories, and write raw, emotional lyrics. They take ownership of every aspect of their music. They are a pair of fresh faces, despite being around for over ten years. I would highly reccomend The Con and every one of their other albums to music enthusiasts and average listeners. I am looking forward to their new album to be released this October.

Their Best Album!

The harmonizing between them is my favorite part, especially in Call It Off. The lyrics are special, as if they wanted to relate to your personal experiences. Every song flows right into the next, it is evident that they worked very hard to make this a good quality album. No fillers, all of the songs were well written and composed. I hadn't heard their music before buying this album, but now, I must say, they're my favorite for sure.
