Album Review

Don't let the Mohawk deceive you; the Last Goodnight play deliberate radio-friendly rock that, although delivered with a certain attitude, is far from the fleeting gimmicks of punk-pop. These are not your typical three-minute, three-chord snippets of rebellion that you might expect after glimpsing the album cover or seeing lead singer Kurtis John's 'do. Rather, Poison Kiss is a combination of Fastball's punchy organ/guitar mixture and Maroon 5's syncopated genius and occasionally dark lyrics. It fires on all cylinders, with a rhythmic tightness and an absolutely golden voice. None of the parts call particular attention to themselves, but the sum is one heck of a record. Their strengths shine brightest on their breakthrough single, "Pictures of You," not to be confused with the Cure's alternative classic of the same name. The lyrics sum up images of life together in relationships, coming together in a made-for-radio chorus. "Back Where We Belong" also comes off as catchy but fades slightly with the realization that it could easily be mistaken for Maroon 5's "This Love." In some spots the lyrics shine, like on "Incomplete" — "If you didn't want the garden/Why'd you plant the seeds." In others they fall flat — the groovy R&B beat of "Good Love" wraps up with the superficial lyrics "Let's talk about good, good love." Take it for what it is, a fun spin around the block that leaves a smile on your face.

Definetly my taste.

I heard Pictures of You on the radio and I was like "Hey...this is a pretty cool song" so I wanted to look it up online. I never heard of the band til I heard that song and I wanted to know more.
I kinda felt guilty for giving up. Usually if I'd hear a song I like on the radio and its a new band singing it, as soon as I would get home I would just go online and do a maniac search for the band. Lol.

I didnt though. I regret it cause I heard all the songs from this album and every single one of these songs would be hit singles. The Last Goodnight could pick ANY of their songs from this album and Im telling you theyre pretty damn well enough to be number 1 hit singles.

Ive never had so many favorite songs in ONE cd in a long while. Heres my rate:

1) Poison Kiss- I love the part where it goes "This Kiss is Poisonious" [sp] 5/5
2) Back Where We Belong- I definetly like the beat. Its upbeat and dancey. Its great! 5/5
3) Pictures of You- Kinda reminds me of Mat Kearny. Thought it was song at first lol. 4/5
4) Stay Beautiful- I love the chorus. The verses are kinda too jazzy for me. 4.5/5
5) This is the Sound- I can totally dedicate this to my ex. Great ballad. If this is a ballad? lol 5/5
6) One Trust- This song makes me want to give free hugs. I swear all these songs dont even
deserve negative feedback. 4.5/5
7) Return to Me- Wow. Most definetly my number 1 favorite song... I love when he goes "Uhhh" in a high-ish voice. Definetly a 6/5 [yes its possible. gosh.]
8) Good Love- Not a favorite. Sounds too tiring. Not catchy enough but mad props! 3/5
9) If I Talk To God- This song definetly touched my heart. it gave me absolute chills. Good ones. 5/5
10) Push Me Away- It didnt really catch me. But its a nice song! No lie. 3.5/5
11) In Your Arms- Gosh. Can his voice get any sexier? I love how
he expresses himself in this song. 5/5
12) Incomplete- YESSS! Now this is what Im talking about. My type of rock, mannn! 5/5
13) When It All Comes Down (bonus track)- Aww man. This should be on every cd. But its definetly too good for the CD so In understand why its a bonus track. 4/5

mature version of Maroon 5, except better.

Definitely one of the best bands I have heard. It got me hooked on the moment I listened to them. All their songs have great lyrics and a very upbeat tempo. A great variety of music too. Pictures of You is more rock and upbeat while some of the other songs are more calming. I definitely recommend this band to any rock/alternative/pop listeners.

Hellogoodbye With More Rock and less synthesizers

These guys are a great mix of Hellogoodbye and Maroon 5. So if you're a fan of those two groups, but prefer a slightly more rock edge, than this group is for you! These guys are great!

Best Songs: Pictures of You, When It All Comes Down, Poison Kiss, and Push Me Away

Biography

Formed: Enfield, CT

Genre: Adult Alternative

Years Active: '00s

It's difficult to pigeonhole the Last Goodnight as a band that fits into a specific genre unless it's one as broad as pop/rock, even if they do look like your typical emo group. Originally coming together while attending Enfield High in Connecticut, the band — Kurtis John (vocals, piano), Mike Nadeau (lead guitar), Anton Yurack (guitar, keys, vocals), Leif Christensen (bass), and Larone McMillan (drums) — started concocting traditionally structured songs that could have easily come out...
