The new Cindy Lauper
This could be our new Cindy Lauper. Fearless attitude and sure-footed, unique style. "Ur So Gay" is a biting and surreal capsule of her break up with her metro-sexual ex-boyfriend. "Use Your Love" is a great cover that fits her well, and in "Lost", she reaches deep into the disillusionment of growing up in this world right now with beautiful grace and heart-wrenching honesty straight from her diary (wait 'til you hear the last chorus.)
Why??
This is horrible, it doesn't even deserve to be called music. Seriously, "Ur So Gay" ? That's nowhere near creative and the other songs are just as bad. The lyrics are completely mindless. If she actually tried she might have a career in music but I guess all the people want these days are terrible, idiotic lyrics for their Top 40. Blech. And what is this garbage about "I Kissed A Girl" ? Another stupid excuse for a song and why would you say you liked kissing a girl but then you say "ur so gay". Stupid songs, don't waste your time.
Lyrics: borderline brilliance; Music: just OK.
I think that the use of "you're so gay" in this song actually is referring to a boy acting like a slightly flamboyant homosexual, not as an insult in and of itself. I'm a gay chick who went to art school, and BELIEVE ME all of the straight boys there looked like gay boys - they looked like the boy that Katy sings about in her song. it's a subculture that exists among "hipsters," a crowd that for some people can be difficult to deal with. That's why I can totally relate. And since every other rock artist seems to be trying to be part of the hipster culture that spawned the boy katy despairs over, you don't get to hear many songs as candid as this one on the topic at hand.
The lyrics are great, IMHO, and the video is brilliant. The music is just so-so. I usually listen for music first and then lyrics, but in this case the lyrics almost make up for the lackluster composition.
