iTunes Review

Director Jason Reitman’s film about a young couple’s unexpected pregnancy provides a soundtrack that primarily reflects a childlike sense of wonder. Kimya Dawson appears solo, with her old group, the Moldy Peaches, and her side project Antsy Pants. Her contributions, regardless of name, reflect the open-eyed whimsy that Dawson applies to all her work. (“Tire Swing,” for example, features a whistling solo.) Several short instrumentals from Dawson provide the film’s incidental music, while children’s music singer Barry Louis Polisar adds a harmonica-driven folk-tune “All I Want Is You” and 1960s legends the Velvet Underground are represented by the Maureen Tucker sung lullaby “I’m Sticking With You.” Rounding out the soundtrack are an odd assortment of classic rockers, from Buddy Holly’s obscure “Dearest” to the more obvious Kinks tune “A Well Respected Man” and Mott the Hoople’s David Bowie-penned “All the Young Dudes.” Cat Power’s dour take on Phil Phillips’ “Sea of Love” is matched by Sonic Youth’s dark, whispered interpretation of the Carpenters’ “Superstar,” that once appeared on a tribute to the ‘70s duo.

simply beautiful

Juno itself is filled with so much more then anyone could ever expect. Not your average teenager getting pregnant film let me tell you. And the Soundtrack--which oldly enough was almost all already part of my itunes library before even seeing the film--adds the final coat of beauty amongst an already spectacular creation. Finally music that may not be main stream critique can shine in all its glory.
A definite must see--must buy

Most Coherent Soundtrack In Years

When I saw the movie in New York, I would have sworn to you that the entire soundtrack, from top to bottom, was an original score. Every piece in the movie is so coherent, and fits so perfectly, that I was shocked to discover the variety of performers whose songs went into this movie. From the Velvet Underground to Polistar, every song blends effortlessly into the plot, as though each piece were composed specifically for this movie. I really commend whoever combined such an eclectic mixture of songs into such a balanced and altogether stunning soundtrack. This is hands-down the best soundtrack I've heard in years. It really turned Juno from an independent, hilarious movie into some of the greatest cinema of this decade.

I can't stop listening to this album

This is by far one of the best movie soundtracks I have ever heard. It has some great classic artists: the Kinks, Buddy Holly, Mott the Hoople, and the Carpenters covered by Sonic Youth. Michael Cera and Ellen Page did a wonderful job with "Anyone Else But You"; my personal favorite. I had never heard of Kimya Dawson before this album, but she grew on me quickly with her lighthearted and silly songs. Do yourself a favor and buy this album. You won't regret it.
