iTunes Review
While Ben Gibbard receives most of the attention as the writer and singer of these earnest songs of heartbreak and displacement, the Seattle band's guitarist and producer Chris Walla deserves to be acknowledged for giving Death Cab for Cutie the expansive, widescreen sound that separates them from the ever-crowded emo ranks. Transatlanticism, the band's fourth studio album, is a major step for the group. Gibbard's songwriting is as hook-filled and tear-jerking as ever. He sounds like Elliot Smith funneled through the Zombies' Colin Blunstone and Pernice Brothers' Joe Pernice. But it's the extra layer of guitar and keyboard washes of "The New Year," "Tiny Vessels," and "The Sound of Settling" that kick-start these songs into permanent resonance. The added pillow of sound creates dream-like prospects for the group, but they wisely choose tokeep their mojo workin', operating from a position of both strength and repose. Rarely is rainy-day music this potent and loud.

An amazing album
by LilaineSimply put, one of the most beautiful and meaningful albums, ever. I strongly reccomend the album for /anyone/ who wants beautiful rythms and instrumenals, and true, deep lyrics.
Nothing short of amazing.
by Wolf MoonI've been listening to DCFC for about 7 months now. I started off with songs from newer albums like Plans and Narrow Stairs. I have slowly been discovering the pure gold that is the older DCFC. I bought this album a few weeks ago, and I can truthfully say that this is my favorite DCFC album, if not my favorite music album of all time. It is a true work of art. Each song flows into the next.
The New Year - 9/10. Probably my second to least favorite song on the album, but it starts the album off with a bang.
Lightness - 8/10. Sad to say that this is my least favorite song on the album. It's OK, but not stellar.
Title and Registration - 9.3/10. Not my favorite, but it's not the worst song, either. Nice lyrics, and the baclground instrumentals are definatley catchy.
Expo '86 - 9.2/10/ As with TaR, it's not my favorite, but not the worst. It's a nice slower song.
The Sound of Settling - 9.8/10. Probably the most upbeat song on the album. Although it's pretty short, it's a great track. I often have "bah-baaaah" going through my head after I listen to it on its own. LOL
Tiny Vessels - 10/10. A beautiful slow song, with amazing background instrumentals. The lyrics are really heartfelt.
Transatlanticism - 1000000/10. The title track is IMHO the best on the album. The lyrics are simply breathtaking, along with the instrumentals. This track is close to 8 minutes long, and every second is amazing. My favorite DCFC song and my favorite slow song. <3
Passenger Seat - 100/10. My second favorite song on the album. It sets a very peaceful mood and the lyrics are also breathtaking.
Death of an Interior Decorator - 9.6/10. A sometimes underrated faster-paced song. It's actually a pretty nice track.
We Looked Like Giants - 100/10. This song is probably tied with Passenger Seat for second favorite song. The beginning is amazing... you think you're listening to a slower song, and then the song takes off in a completely different, fast-paced direction.
A Lack of Color - 10/10 A great way to close the album. A very nice acoustic song with heartfelt lyrics.
This is a GREAT band
by doggiedogi love the sound and if your half way normal you will too. Title and Registration is the BEST!
