iTunes Review

Over the course of the eight tracks on Ride the Lightning the listener can detect the beginnings of the cataclysmic shift occurring in metal. Opening with the punishing combination of “Fight Fire With Fire” and “Ride the Lightning,” Metallica provide an immediate reminder of why they are the reigning kings of thrash metal, but with the slow, steamrolling riff of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” it becomes clear that the band is growing beyond the speed metal parameters of Kill ‘Em All. Their ambition is confirmed by “Fade to Black,” a ballad that refuses to sacrifice attitude for sentiment. To reiterate for their fans that they weren’t going soft, the second side of Ride the Lightning is lined with three of the band’s most devastating jolts: “Trapped Under Ice,” “Escape,” and “Creeping Death.” The album ends with “The Call of Ktulu,” an intricate eight-minute epic that points the way towards Master of Puppets and …And Justice For All. Ride The Lightning proved Metallica were more than the American metal movement’s brightest stars — they were now its leaders.

Wow.

Just wow. This was the second Metallica album I got, and it is the only one I can listen to through the whole album without skipping any songs.

Fight Fire with Fire-Possibly the heaviest song from the 80's, perfect way to start off an album
Ride the Lightning-From the main riff to even the drum fill before the incredile 2 minute solo, everything is great.
For Whom the Bell Tolls-This one doesn't even need a description. That's how awesome it is.
Fade to Black-Sure, it's a bit softer than the other songs, but not in a cheap sell out way. Plus the solo makes up for it.
Trapped Under Ice-Fast, heavy, solo's left and right, this song is the definition of thrash metal.
Escape-It may be my least favorite song on the album, but it's still godly. A bit softer than other songs than other songs on the album.
Creeping Death-Holy sh*t. Best song on the album, no doubt.
The Call of Ktulu-Great instrumental. Starts off nice and peaceful, yet it turns into something much different.

Overall, this album gets a 9.5 out of 10. It's a must have for anyone who even remotely likes metal.

I absolutely love this album. It has amazingly fast songs like Fight Fire With Fire and slower one's like For Whom the Bell Tolls. I also like how Itunes includes some awsome live songs. It's just an amazing album.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits...
