Album Review
Story-Based Concept Album is precisely as claimed, a concept album illustrated by a graphic novel booklet. Which sounds simple enough, until you take a look at the collective that was created to bring the set to fruition. But let's back up. The T4 Project was Shannon Saint Ryan's unwieldy baby, a daydream of a set featuring a fantasy list of players, the cream of the punk scene. But through perseverance and good fortune, the T4 Project came into being as more and more musicians climbed on board. The album started taking shape, artists were employed, and eventually the set emerged much as Saint Ryan had always envisioned. Set in an uber-horror-land not far removed from contemporary America, the songs vividly describe the world and tell the tragic tale of two young discontents caught up in a cycle of hatred and violence, whose chains are finally broken at album's end. Interspersing the musical numbers are faux commercials and political commentary, all dripping with irony, sarcasm, and humor. The lyrics are heavy-handed, but then this is an unashamed polemic, and the power of the words are echoed by the power of the music, for Saint Ryan enlisted some heavy hitting talent. Members of Pennywise, Bad Religion, Porno for Pyros, Strung Out, Conflict, Subhumans, Buzzcocks and many, many more musicians, 13 in all, participated. All left a mark on the sound, although Pennywise and Bad Religion are arguably Saint Ryan's largest influences. Just to hear all these musicians playing in various combinations is worth the price of admission, but the message is one that demands hearing as well. Who says dreams can't come true?

The Revolution Has Begun!
Nothing less than amazing! Shannon Saint Ryan, Producer/Creator of The T4 Project, has assembled an incredible array of the very best punk/hardcore musicians of the past and present in bringing to life The T4 Project: Story-Based Concept Album. Far more than just a punk "super-group", this is an outstanding collective of outspoken and exceptional artists who have united collaboratively to produce an extraordinary collection of songs that weaves together the story of a young punk couple, chewed up and spat out by "the system" and the strength of will necessary for us to overcome and overthrow that system, represented by "the virus". This release is the whole package. It's a wake up call for a new revolution - inciting and inspiring it's listeners to wake up and rise up against that system, and to do so through creativity, unity and tenacity. Something which Saint Ryan shows in spades on this release which took over 2 years in the making in 7 studios on 2 continents and includes such seminal punk luminaries as Fletch Dragge from Pennywise, Greg Hetson from the Circle Jerks and Bad Religion, Jay Bentley from Bad Religion, Tony Barber from the Buzzcocks, Spike T. Smith from Morrisey and The Damned, Trotsky from the Subhumans, Peter Distefano from Porno For Pyros and the list goes on and on. The 10 musical tracks are interspersed with 8 "pseudo-commercials" filled with sharp wit and biting social satire. It's very much worth getting the entire download of the album which also includes the fully illustrated digital "graphic novel" story booklet that conveys the darkly sobering yet ultimately inspiring message behind the album. There is also a great video out on the internet that shows the DIY ethic behind the making of this entire project that is a must see. Once again, an exceptional release. The T4 Revolution has definitely begun!
great punk cd unlike anything i've heard
When I first gave this CD a listen, I had already heard the track “15 Minutes” and absolutely loved it, but the rest of the album didn’t grab me right away. Upon giving it a few more listens, though, more and more songs really started to grow on me until I loved nearly all of the songs on the album. The lyrics are very hard-hitting and deliver strong messages that really sink into you. Rather than sweeping all of America’s issues under the carpet and pretending everything is fine, the T4 Project brings it all to the table on a silver platter and encourages you to rise up for change and help fix the mess that our country has become.
Aside from the songs, there are also pseudo-commercials drenched in political satire that are scattered throughout the album. I think this added a very cool and different approach to getting their messages across, not to mention the “commercials” are hilarious. They poke fun at things such as censorship, our extreme (and unnecessary) reliance on medications, joining the military, and the homophobic nature of our country. Original artwork by renowned graphic artist, Keith Rosson, pulls this whole album together into one visually and audibly perfect package unlike anything I’ve ever come across in the world of punk music.
Considering the large amount of talent on this album (with contributions from members of Strung Out, Pennywise, Bad Religion, to name a few), it should come as no surprise that this album is amazing. Don’t just give it one listen, because these songs are bound to grow on you as you really listen to the lyrics and take in the whole sound of the album. The messages they deliver are powerful, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to hear a very original punk album that refuses to ignore the real America and incorporates strong lyrics with a great punk sound. The T4 Project Story-Based Concept Album is a well-needed call for change that couldn’t have come at a better time, and it’s time for us to answer the call and do our part.
Great CD!
I heard this CD at my buddy's house. Absolutely cool stuff. With members of Bad Religion, Pennywise, and Jason from Strung Out singing--how could it go wrong? Very cool story and an awesome message. This is an essential for punx everywhere!
