Album Review
Composer Michael Giacchino (The Incredibles, Mission Impossible 3, Lost) brings '60s cartoon icon Speed Racer into the 21st century with his wild, retro-futuristic score for Andy and Larry Wachowski's frenetic live action film. Giacchino deftly weaves Nobuyoshi Koshibe's original themes and melodies into the mix, utilizing the percussive, piano and horn driven, four on the floor original intro whenever he gets the chance, and peppering the film with enough emotive interludes and lounge-tinged asides to render Austin Powers a period drama. This is a fun and colorful score that manages to sound both economical and loved, and may be one of the most satisfying audio jumps from TV to the big screen since Danny Elfman's score for 1989's Michael Keaton-era Batman.

Stunning score, perfect movie
by Bumblebear123For sheer emotion, dazzle, charm and heart, this is the greatest movie ever made. The score blows my hair back. "Reboot" makes me sob and then go crazy. Everything about it is just perfect. The Wachowskis have to know what an amazing job they did -- everyone I talk to loves this movie. Michael Giacchino obviously knows how incredible his score is. Look at these reviews!

Best Film Score of 2008

Micahel Giacchino should have won an award for this score. The Itunes reviewer has it right. The imaginative and epic scale of this score measures up to Danny Elfman's early works such as Batman. It is stylish, energetic, fun but more importantly it has themes you can identify which is becoming uncommon in the age of progressive scoring. He uses the first few notes of the Speed Race TV theme song to introduces several tracks (similar to how Jerry Goldsmith incorporated the Star Trek TV theme into his movie scores) and then only in the higher emotional cues does he bring in the full theme song to put an exclamation point to end of a music track. One of the best scores to come along in a very long time. Can't wait to hear his new score for Star Trek.
