iTunes Review
Stripped to a duo of Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray, L.A.’s Earlimart with producer Andrew Lynch create just the right amount of sonic space for the smart, intimate songs featured on their sixth studio album, 2008’s Hymn and Her. Much like Modesto, California’s favorite lo-fi sons Grandaddy and the melodic loafing pop of Luna, as well as any number of psychedelic relics from the 1960s, Earlimart channel tunes that yearn with unresolved emotion and the pretty summery instrumentation that brings a striking personality out of the wallflowers. The songs never reach outward, but demand the listener go inward. Espinoza sings just above a whisper, wrapping his voice in gauzy reverb for the otherworldly transmission of “For the Birds,” as cheap keyboards encircle the ethereal love song. The sounds turn ambient and ominous for the closeout of “God Loves You The Best,” while the simple chord strums introducing “Great Heron Gates” anticipate a slow, eventual expansion. Even the slow grind powering “Cigarettes and Kerosene” is kept in a reserved place. Meditative pop. Nothing rushes these folks.

Earlimart's Best To Date
by captnbobThis album didn't catch on as quickly as Mentor Tormentor, but by the end of my first listen i was hooked. take a listen!
evolved out of me
by hoodlamI loved Everyone Down Here, played it constantly, wore it out. I waited eagerly for Treble and Tremble it took a while for me but I warmed up to it. Optimistically I was excited about Mentor Tormentor but alas and unfortunately it immediately became one of those Ipod albums destined to be browsed past for all all time, I found nothing I wanted listen to, I was heart broken, one of my favorite bands had evolved out of me leaving a musical void where it was once so firmly entrenched. The new album peaked my interest but after a listen it was all but confirmed...earlimart was no longer the earlimart i used to enjoy.
