iTunes Review

This Los Angeles based electro-pop duo — musician-actress Leisha Hailey who appeared on Showtime’s The L Word and performed with the Murmurs, and singer-producer-musician Camila Grey, once a member of the lo-fi group Mellowdrone — perform ear-catching confections that never lose the song in all their glitzy hues. After a successful 2007 EP with I See Red, the duo, named after the 2004 PJ Harvey album, holed up in the studio for their full-length 2008 debut, Common Reaction, an album that expands on their initial, dancefloor appeal with greater keyboard textures and a swath of vocal patches that enliven and haunt these smooth-rolling tracks. The title track is thick with an urban, excited atmosphere and a shameless pop grace. The guitars pushing “Say So,” the album’s first single, and the indie-rock flavored “Everyone,” channel the aggressive pulse of ‘80s new wave without slavishly surrendering to the era.  “Covered” builds from a few spare keyboard notes into an intricate weave of pulsing basslines and compulsive dancebeats. For all their trendy sounds, Uh Huh Her deliver a substantial, sustainable wallop.
