iTunes Review

Brave Saint Saturn began as a side-project by members of Christian ska-punk outfit Five Iron Frenzy, then took on a life of its own over the course of two sci-fi concept albums. After a five-year hiatus, the band resumes on Anti-Meridian, a digital-only release. Members Reese Roper, Dennis Culp, Keith Hoerig, and Andrew Verdecchio continue their saga of wandering astronauts returning to earth in these tracks, though the story line often seems tangential to the individual songs. Pulsating ‘70s-style synthesizers are juxtaposed with blistering electric guitar outbursts and softer acoustic interludes. Rousing anthems like “Hero’s Homecoming,” “Mercenary,” and “These Frail Hands” achieve a big, wailing sound that transcends their retro-kitschy arrangements. A few touches recall Five Iron Frenzy’s zanier side, especially the oddball background chorus on “When You Burn Too Fast.” For the most part, though, these songs are seriously intended, whether their messages are straightforward (“Invictus”) or delivered in parable form (“Starling”). A nicely overwrought cover of ELO’s “Here Is the News” goes well with the originals.

I have always been an FIF fan.....wish that group was still rockin'!!! Since Reese put out the first Brave Saint Saturn album I have been hooked. He has a way of intriguing you and putting out a solid message. Another great album!!!

Yay, love it!!!!! (not)

The only real music on this cd is Starling, seriously. The melodies are horrendous, singers are fakes, and choruses are anti-catchy (for lack of a better word). The the beats are all the same, and the idiots who say this is the best cd of the year, go listen to some real music (i.e. Coldplay, The Shins, Snow Patrol, Death Cab, Copeland--just to name a few great artists with new music out). My seven-year old brother creates better sounds with his twerp buddies in my basement (well, that's debatable, but still).

(Yah!!! I posted the first review with less than 3 stars)
(Just kidding, this is real music, if you compare it to 50-cent!) hah!
(I actually love black people, except for Barack Hussein Obama (and rappers). In fact, I am part Norweigan)

(By the way, if anyone asks, I am 17 years old, and male..... and single)

When they're not skanking to the ska-punk sound in Five Iron Frenzy, Reese Roper (guitar/vocals), Dennis Culp (guitar), and Keith Hoerig (bass) compose a swirly, spacedelic style in Brave Saint Saturn. They like to say they're forerunners of "astro-rock," so Brave Saint Saturn's eclectic, noisy mix of...
