Kylie Minogue’s knack for self-reinvention has helped her survive shifting trends, career zigzags, and life-threatening illness without missing a beat, literally. Her seductive vocals and jet-set princess persona have taken her from sleek ‘80s dance-pop to adventurous ‘90s rock forays and back again and Boombox collects the best of her 21st-century remixes in one hard-pumping package. Anyone who fails to move to tracks like “The One,” “On a Night Like This,” “Come Into My World,” and just about everything else found here needs a glandular jumpstart. The Latin-inflected “Red Blooded Woman” and the throbbing “Can’t Get Blue Monday Out of My Head” (an inspired mash-up fusing Kylie with New Order) gain sparkle from fresh mix wizardry. More than anything, this collection attests to Minogue’s continued evolution as an artist: recent tunes like the brash lounge-rocker “2 Hearts” find her testing her limits once more and Boombox’s previously-unreleased title track — a pulsating exercise in pop-funk — offers an extra enticement. Remixed, re-imagined, or taken straight, the music here celebrates Kylie’s status as a diva for all seasons.
