A little too hackey

by MSR20096

This album as a whole is just Umphrey's trying to be prog gods while still having the heart of the Beatles. They really just tried too hard, Local Band does O.K. and Anchor Drops had much more complexity as well as smooth flowing melodies and was much easier and enjoyable to listen to. Needless to say they will obviously rock these songs out live(as they always do) but altogether Mantis is not there best studio album.

Absolutely brilliant

These guys have proved that they're one of the hardest working bands over the years, and this album is a cultimation of that statement. These guys put a 110% in and truly love what they do and it shows. Not only do you have the obvious prog influences in this album, but there is a flury of modern rock flavor to likes of 311 and maybe a little incubus in songs like cemetary walk and turn and run. And it just continues to feed to their own ever-progressing sound, while staying on track. Mantis is superb, song and album. And it just adds to ever changing landscapes of their blistering live performances.
cheers!

A Gem

It's rare that bands these days come out with such diverse sounds that flow together in a way to create truly inspiring melodies. This is music at its very core people - experimentation that works. I rarely give five stars, but i think this band deserves it.

The members of Umphrey's McGee met at the University...
