iTunes Review
After securing some nice publicity with their appearance in the movie Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist, Bishop Allen return with their third full-length release, a collection of bouncy, breezy pop songs that flow smoothly from one to the next. These 13 songs are cleverly constructed and more nuanced than they appear on first listen; they almost make it sound too easy. While the formula is basic guitar-based pop, the songs stand out on the strength of hummable melodies, snappy backing vocals, neatly-placed keyboards and strings, and good editing — the longest song clocks in at 3:15. The lyrics are similarly concise, with witty wordplay and playfulness the rule. “Dimmer,” “Oklahoma,” “True or False,” and “Cue the Elephants” are immediately catchy, and there are plenty of other charming moments spread across the album as well, making Grrr… lighthearted, likeable, and a lot of fun.

Not what I expected!
by AaaahRealChey!I first heard of bishop allen when i watched nick and norah's infinite playlist (i know, i know) and actually spent a couple of months doing nothing but making fun of the scene they appear in. My friends and I found it hilarious. It wasn't until recently that I picked up their album used at a bookstore and absolutely fell in love. I feel horrible for making fun of them before because they really are incredible. I love the simple melodies and just the altogether happy feeling of the whole album. DO NOT judge these guys before you listen to them because they are absolutely amazing. :]
Thoroughly Impressed
by Simple&TrueI'm not going to lie - I am absolutely astonished with this album. When I saw that Bishop Allen had another album, I was excited, but I waited for it to come to me. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed their other albums and I had just forgotten some of the brilliancy of their lyrics and beats. Listening to this album, I remembered why I loved Bishop Allen to begin with. You will not be disappointed with this album. It's a beautiful collection and, in my opinion, the best collection of theirs yet! Please check it out!
I would choose the darkest horse, that's the horse I'd ride.
by painting the roses redI liked this a bit more than the last album, but not significantly. My favorites are Dimmer, Dirt on Your New Shoes, The Ancient Commonsense of Things, and Shanghaied
