iTunes Review

Carolina, Eric Church’s 2009 sophomore album, finds him upholding his commitment to high-quality country. As on his debut release, Church asserts his kinship with the outlaw tradition of Waylon Jennings — tunes like “Ain’t Killed Me Yet” and “Young and Wild” are loud, proud, and rowdy. In the swamp-rocker “Lotta Boot Left to Fill,” he takes a swipe at the “pretty boys acting tough” who pass for country stars these days. Beyond such ornery outbursts, Church is capable of closely observed sketches of everyday life, delivered with a slightly melancholy twang. “Where She Told Me to Go,” “You Make it Look So Easy,” and “Those I’ve Loved” are sensitive expressions of love and loss presented in acoustic-oriented settings. Producer Jay Joyce contributes to the album’s impact with his nuanced production touches, such as the techno-rock groove of “Hell On the Heart” and the dreamy guitar textures coloring the title track. Edgy yet accessible, Carolina advances Church towards full stardom while keeping his integrity intact.

I first heard Eric Church on the radio with his song "How 'Bout You" and fell in love with his voice. Bought "Sinners Like Me" and listened to it constantly. Had been waiting for his sophmore album and was not disappointed.

"Carolina" is full of rich lyrics that really hit home with many of us. The songs still possess classic themes, yet his lyrics and musical stylings really make them unique and special. If you enjoyed his first album, why haven't you bought this one yet?! If all you've heard of Church thus far are his radio releases and are still, for some reason, tentative to buy the album stop being a ninny and buy it! You'll love "Carolina".

He is the best....

EC is what other country music artists wish they could be. He doesnt fool around with pop cookie cutter songs that record companies are forcing on artists. He is real. His songs mean something. Best two cds in my collection are by EC. I just need "the world needs a drink" with only him singing and i would be set.
