Delightful
by raffishWhile I've been a Vienna Teng fan for years, this fourth album is the one that fully delivers for me on the promise of her almost frighteningly good debut. So confident, so varied, and so endearing. There can no longer be any doubt about it: she's a star.
If you're not ready to take a chance on the whole thing, I urge you at the very least to risk $0.99 on the downright joyous "Stray Italian Greyhound."
Stronger Effort Than Her 3rd Album...
by Crimson Penguin...but still not as strong as the first two albums.
Teng is, however, doing what any musician should: exploring new territory while sticking to a genre/style that truly defines her.
The Last Snowfall is absolutely gorgeous, but then is countered by White Light, which is undeniably the weakest song on the album. (There is this very annoying synthesizer effect on the buildup to a chorus that detracts immensely from the song and the melody just isn't there.) However, songs like Antebellum, In Another Life, Grandmother Song, Stray Italian..., Augustine, and No Gringo more than make up for it. Teng has a knack for writing simple, yet beautiful songs. As always, this is a recommended Teng purchase. Look forward to the Santa Cruz concert next week!
Been Waiting for This!
by RaiderDudeYou would be losing out on a great experience if you don't buy this album!! My wife and I saw VT in December and she sang three songs from this new album, before it was released obviously. They floored me, and have been anxiously awaiting this album ever since. It did not disappoint! Vienna has really been evolving in her style through the last three albums, and it has brought her to this point, which I think is her most mature and diverse effort to date. Although I absolutely love her first two albums, and like her 3rd I believe this is her best album. I'm so amazed that she still plays in relatively small venues, although I love that intimate feel, even though the size has grown to over a 1000 people at a show, up from hundreds in her early tours. I can't wait to see her live again, as she puts on an amazing show as well. Her and Alex Wong are an amazing team! Do yourself a favor, and sit in your favorite chair, with your favorite drink with a nice pair of headphones, or great stereo system and just fade away into another world listening to this album.
