iTunes Review

After 2007’s Love the Virgins, a powerful offering built on ‘60s garage energy and strutting sex appeal, Gliss return with Devotion Implosion, a set that feels more narcoticized than amped up. From the hazy and beautiful opening track “Morning Light” (recalling both Lush and Jesus and Mary Chain) to the aptly titled “Sleep” and its drowsy guitars, fans of Virgins might find they need a little boost to keep them awake. Jump straight to “29 Acts of Love” or “Sad Eyes” for a couple shots of pulsing, clanging guitars (and, on the latter, a bold nod to that raw ‘60s energy we’ve come to expect from them), then temper your comedown with the billowing, hypnotic guitars on tracks like “Anybody Inside” and “The Patrol.”  Devotion has a different feel than Virgins, to be sure, but Gliss still aims for dramatic music capable of transporting the listener. The circling layers of guitars on “Lovers In the Bathroom” build and swell, like dark clouds on the horizon, and the lovely and delicate (by comparison) “Sister Sister” has a meditative, soothing quality.

I bought this album not thinking it would be anything special, but now i can't stop listening to it. The lyrics in the songs are amazing mixed with the hazy distant feel of the music just works so well. I would highly reccomend this album

This Record is Great!

This record is great. It is an excellent mix of cute brit pop, fuzzy noise and jammed out rock. RIYL: The Kills, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Crystal Stilts. Definitely pick this up if you enjoy any of those bands.

FIRST REVIEW!

At first i just bought this album because of the cool cover (I know, i know, never judge an album by its cover) but the songs ended up being amazing! This is a mix of 80's pop and futuristic rock: the perfect blend for the 21 century. If you're not sure about this album, take my word for it: you won't regret it. Gliss is truly the "Next Big Thing" in the music industry, and don't we all just love saying "Hey! I heard them first!" when their song hits #1 on the Billboard? I know I do! Gliss is an amazing singer with lots of talent that I'm sure she's dying to share with the world.

Biography

Formed: Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Playing dark, moody pop music that suggests My Bloody Valentine gone garage rock, Gliss learned the hard way that less is more when the first lineup of the group split up. Los Angeles natives Martin Klingman and David Reiss, who traded off on bass and guitar, were disappointed when the other two members...
