iTunes Review
There’s more than immediately meets the eye or ear when it comes to Casey Spooner and Warren Fischer. The duo formed in late-‘90s New York and has built a reputation for innovative expression, mixing avant-garde electro with stunning performance art. For Fischerspooner’s third studio album, Entertainment, the duo partner with producer Jeff Saltzman (the Killers, the Black Keys) to deliver thought-provoking commentaries on modern society. “The Best Revenge” gets things moving, synths and sax stabs working upon a driving beat as steely vocals ponder, “How much does it cost to live the life of your dreams?” “Money Can’t Dance” continues the dollars-aren’t-everything theme with jumpy, cascading synths accentuating the upbeat tempo. Catchy “In a Modern World” is the crowning jewel, shifting among gorgeous harmonies, vocal effects, and a whispering female provoking you to text message everyone you know. Bonus track, “Fascinating,” written by R.E.M., takes listeners to an even-more-dislocated reality where the air is thin and the wit is dry.
