iTunes Review

This Australian musical ministry has spearheaded the modern worship genre across the globe with galvanizing rockers and stirring ballads. A_CROSS//the_EARTH is a live recording very much in the tradition of the group’s hugely successful previous releases. Their blending of ‘80s techno-rhythms, arena-rock dynamics, and 21st-century Britpop ambiance once again provides the sonic framework for their God-centered lyrics. “Freedom Is Here” (driven by an insistent pulsating groove), “Your Name High” (reminiscent of early U2 and Big Country), and “Yours Forever” (moving to a celebratory shuffle) are among the most uplifting moments here. “More Than Anything” and the title tune are a bit more contemplative, though still muscular in their guitar-based arrangements. A pair of songs featuring singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser — “Desert Song” and “Soon” — offer a more reflective counterpoint to the album’s pervasively boisterous tone. A_CROSS//The_EARTH serves as a ringing call for world unity through committed Christian faith.

Same message, fresh take....delectable to some, perhaps not so to others..

The latest offering from Hillsong United is a bit of a deviation from what we may (or may not have) come to expect in recent years. New songs, same message of Christ's love, all wrapped up in funky new tracks with some emphasis on their mission to spread the Word to any and all who will hear. While some may say that their constant, seemingly endless stream of released music is only a cashgrab (as some have evidenced by referring to their previous effort, the I Heart albums which turned out to be nothing more than newer versions of older songs), one cannot help but wonder if people are perhaps setting their expectations too high. Point taken, but at the same time, should we even have a standard by which to "judge" worship music? What gives us that right to say that one song may be "better" than others? True, people have preferences and feel that some songs resonate more to them than others, but therein lies the key phrase, "more to them than others".

It is precisely that which we must bear in mind as we listen to the newest worship songs being offered by anyone, whether it's Hillsong, Crowder, Tomlin, Jesus Culture, Hall, etc. that worship music is not meant for us...it's meant for HIM. As long as the music is meant to glorify HIM and praise HIM, then it doesn't really matter whether we liked one album better than another. I myself felt more connection with Hillsong's This Is Our God album than I did with this one, but that's just me.

Ultimately, it is, as many have said before you, your decision whether or not you are going to purchase this album. As far as songs that seem to resonate FOR ME, You Hold Me Now could be one of my favorites as it just simply comes out as..well...a love song. Listen to it and see for yourself. Just remember...this is one church's way of praising and worshiping our Creator. Shouldn't we at the very least..be compelled to do the same out of love?

amazing!

I saw the I heart documentary last night. Hillsong UNITED's heart for God is just incredible! My favorite song by far, although all of them are terrific, is Oh You Bring. HU is a blessing, and God is using them in mind-blowing ways. Thanks Hillsong!
