Very, very special!!!!
by puppinadevoteeTHE JOURNEY HOME is a beautiful CD - full of inventive takes on well-known songs, great arrangements, and intelligent, well-sung performances by the great Malcolm Gets. Highly enjoyable - you'll listen again and again. Especially loved GETTING TALL, ANYTIME, and TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS, but every cut is a winner.
Wonderful
by Alyson HI've been waiting for this album for awhile, and it did not disappoint. While it is a little more toned down than I expected, it's still great. The other reviews are true - he does reinvent some songs, particularly "Wait" from Sweeney Todd. When I heard it for the first time, I actually had to check the track and see if it was what I thought it was. What a great arrangement! I'm also a big fan of "Anytime" and "The Journey Home."
A beautiful and personal journey
by BurthenI have been a Gets fan for years, but he has really outdone himself on this CD. Songs I've heard before are reinvented and reimagined here in ways that make you appreciate them all over again. A full on swinging orchestra version of "It's a Fine Life, a lovely and magical "Truly Scrumptious" and "Wait" from Sweeney-- so ravishing it takes your breath away. Gets has the ability to sing beautifully, from his heart, and capture the meaning and emotion from each song. And what an undiscovered gem is "Huggin and Chalkin!! This is an artful and heartfelt CD. I can't stop listening to it!!!!
