Album Review

If you're going to pillage someone else's ideas, then go for broke. Because even if you find yourself crammed between the barriers of creative space, utterly at a loss for ideas, expression, or thought, you'd still have a self-respect buzzing in your ear like a mad angelic insect, putting down the newspaper and taking out a cigar to remind you that, hell, if want to sound like Radiohead when even Thom Yorke doesn't want to sound like Radiohead, you might as well take it to preposterous, bombastic, over-the-top levels. Add church organs, mental electronics, riffs bouncing off each other like the monolithic screams in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and you'll finally be in position to crack skulls like coconuts and make the world's speakers ooze gooey blood.

Masterful

Every song is incredible. Muse's best album and that is saying a lot. I got the CD, so I don't have futurism, but my favorites are New Born, Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased, and Feeling Good. My least favorites are Space Dementia and Hyper Music. I guess I'll break it down song by song because I have time to...

Oh and btw I'm not one of the people that if I like a song it gets a 10/10, a 7/10 is a song that I like very much.

New Born (9/10)- An awesome opener, begins with soft piano and builds to a crunching guitar riff. Singing is of course incredible.

Bliss (8/10)- Another very strong song. The synth arpeggios in the background keep the song moving nicely

Space Dementia (5/10)- I don't know, this song just never tickled my fancy. The piano in the background is cool, but the verses are just not that awesome and I don't like the chorus much. It gets five because its really not a bad song at all, just nothing I particularly enjoy about it.

Hyper Music (6.5/10)- This is a better song then Space Dementia, but still one of Muse's weaker efforts. The base line is superb, but everything else about the song is mediocre.

Plug In Baby (9/10)- Hard for me not to give this a 10, but I only like to give one ten per album. Incredible guitar riff, amazing vocals and a very strong chorus as well.

Citizen Erased (10/10)- If you listen to this song you will see why I held back on my 10/10 for Plug in Baby. This song is incredible. Starts with heavy guitar, and changes to different styles throughout the song. Lyrics are great, chorus is awesome, guitar solo is just about the coolest thing I have ever heard. It's hard to describe why I love this song so much, but it is truly awesome.

Micro Cuts (7/10)- A little grating because Bellamy doesn't sing so much as squeal, and yet, this song is intense and melodic without being over the top.

Feeling Good (9/10)- Probably my second favorite song on the album. I love playing blues on piano at home, but the singing on this song will make any musician turn green with envy.

Screenager (7/10)- Reminds me of Radiohead. Sad, slow song, good lyrics and great guitar in the background on the verse.

Dark Shines (8/10)- Quiet verses lead up to a powerful, almost overwhelming chorus.

Meglomania (8/10)- Slowly swells into a great song.

I know that if you took the average of these songs, it technically would not be 5/5, but given the sheer number of awesome songs on here, along with there being more than one simply unforgettable song make this an album you can't afford to miss. CITIZEN ERASED

Does not sound anything like Radiohead

First of all this album is outstanding. Second of all Muse does not sound anything like Radiohead, DO NOT COMPARE THEM TO RADIOHEAD EVER.

Muse? Like Radio Head and Foo Fighters... Riiiiiiiiight...

The Foo Fighters and Radiohead combined could not scratch the surface of the talent that Matt Bellamy boasts in his musuc. They can't touch his guitar work. They can't touch his vocals. Their songs pale in substance and meaning. I discovered Muse several months ago while watching one of the music video channels. Suddenly, they have become popular with Uprising, when Knights of Cydonia did not even gain them the popularity they deserved, but this CD was one of the two that I picked up. I had given up on music. I was tired of the canned, carbon-copy junk that was being thrown at us. Muse is a breath of fresh air.
