iTunes Review
18 years after their formation, Let the Dominoes Fall shows that Rancid’s expertise at communicating desperation and redemption remains its most precious natural resource. Rooted in punk and ska foundations, Rancid goes fast and furious on the Brett Gurewitz-produced Dominoes (only three songs break the three-minute mark). There are classic Rancid touchstones: hooligan chants, skavoovie goodness, swirling pit agitators, and huge guitars and vocal interplay between Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen. “East Bay Night” is a love letter to their Albany/Berkeley, CA home. They add some classic R&B in the mix with an appearance by Booker T. on Hammond organ for the Memphis-to-Jamaica rave-up “Up to No Good.” They take a Pete Seeger-like turn on the acoustic salute to a homecoming soldier, “Civilian Ways.” Let the Dominoes Fall shows Rancid’s depth and ambition as they approach their third decade together.
Customer Reviews
Wow
Its a really good album all an all. I am wondering WHY IS THIS NOT ON THE FRONT PAGE??!?! Crap like Flo Rider gets front page and amazing music like this doesn't WTF?!?
the terrible
Rancid's sandinista. There will be songs from this album in movies 10-15 years from now. Get the extended album! These guys get me excited about music.
Another Natural Progression
What is so enjoyable about Rancid is the fearlessness when it comes to creating an album. Rather than compare each record to their "And Out Come the Wolves" album, which seems to happen quite often, what should be acknowledged is the diversity that each Rancid album maintains. I also suppose what is so appealing about the Rancid albums is the autobiographical composition behind them. The acoustic variations of the "Let the Dominoes Fall" are just as good as the electric versions. I definitely recommend getting ahold of those as well. Essentially, I'd have to say if you don't consider this album punk rock enough for you, then at least listen to the lyrics and appreciate the realness behind the songs. Respect Rancid's honesty. This album is great!
