iTunes Review
After the stellar success of their self-titled 1974 debut album, Bad Company returned in 1975 with Straight Shooter. Featuring two immediate classics with “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and “Shooting Star,” Straight Shooter continued what seemed like the band’s effortless success. The tunes were natural anthems for the arena rock of the era and were permanent fixtures on FM rock radio. Vocalist Paul Rodgers, formerly of Free, defined the role of the macho hard rock singer with his cheeky swagger leading tracks such as the hard rock R&B of “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad,” “Wild Fire Woman,” and “Deal With the Preacher.” The subdued ballad “Anna” showed the band’s range. “Weep No More” adds some juke-joint piano, but mostly Bad Company focused on the gruff powerchords of former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and the tight rhythms of former Free drummer Simon Kirke and ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. The band forged an identifiable groove that became the floorplan for many future FM hard rockers.

Straight Shooter
by cyranobobI have always thought this album - Bad Co's second - much surpassed the first one, good as that one was. Straight Shooter was harder, louder and Paul Rodgers (let's face it - the virtuoso of the group) literally soared to new heights. Having said that, the band members themselves were no slouches, and their tight and tasty playing prevailed throughout. Only down side? That rock radio, and hence the general listening public, still thinks that 'Feel Like Makin' Love' and 'Shooting Star' were the only songs on the album. Hence, most people have never heard 'Wild Fire Woman', which, next to 'Sweet L'il Sister' from Run With The Pack (another classic ignored by the media), is undoubtably one of the top Paul Rogers studio performances ever. Well, we take what we get, whenever we can get it. Despite Bad Co's 'simplicity', they stand with giants in the rock world. I've downloaded (from iTunes, of course) a live version of 'Deal With The Preacher' that literally must be heard to be believed. Rock on, boys.
Johnny was a school boy , when he heard his first Beatle's song ....
by Refuse ResistThat was me , 5 years old , in the heart of Oklahoma . My uncle walked into my aunt's bedroom and gave me a NEW copy of " Meet the Beatles " . Crappy old record player playing something I knew was going to be a big part of my life . I have that album framed and hanging on my wall . When Bad Company played " Shooting Star " I was back in
the hot , windy , farm house listening to the coolest thing I had ever heard . That is what music is about . So keep all the analysis and critiques of music you couldn't begin to create
and just listen . Beatles.... Bad Company ....... Metallica .......King's X .........Incubus........ Who knows..........
