Album Review

Filled with bubbling electronics and light, G-rated club anthems, Ocean Eyes sets its sights on the MySpace generation, targeting the younger siblings of those who bought the Postal Service's Give Up six years earlier. This is computerized pop music, replete with programmed drum loops, digital symphonies, and all the amenities of modern recording software. Only Adam Young's vocals carry a hint of human presence, and his fanciful lyrics — which turn even the most mundane content (see "Dental Care," a good ol' fashioned ode to oral hygiene) into whimsy — serve to strengthen the album's escapist appeal. Such syrupy sweetness builds to a feverish pitch throughout the album's 12 tracks, peaking during the viral sensation "Hey Seattle" and its sonic cousin, "On the Wing." Those who don't have a sweet tooth should stay away, but Ocean Eyes will serve as a tasty dessert for those who can stomach it.

How you know music is going bad....

Yeah so four words to sum up the this highly rated but highly predicable albumn: POSTAL SERVICE RIP OFF! Even the iTunes albumn description states this (though in a more polite way). Can we not think of something original people! Its like they listened to Death Cab and The Postal Service and mixed in what they thought was genius but, in the end, was essentially a Kidz Bop version of Ben Gibbard's work. A prayer to artist doing their own thing and who know they are making something never heard before. "I get a thousand hugs, from 10,000 lightning bugs" haha really? That's not even mathematically correct! However, some songs on the albumn do, somewhat, serve a purpose and have a hint of good writing chops. But really, better luck next time Adam (even though "Fireflies" did hit #1 on the billboards, wonder why "Such Great Heights" could never do that).

Light-hearted and happy, so where's the problem?

Its so refreshing to see a young person take their considerable musical talent and channel it in such a positive way. This music is fun, accessible and appealing to people of all ages. If grannies and babies love it, how can that not be a good thing?
If you don't like it, hey, everyone has their personal taste. But if it makes you angry? You have a real problem and should probably visit your nearest mental health professional ASAP, before you start attacking litters of puppies and kittens too. It's sick the way people are attacking here.

Really???

I heard the song fireflies on the radio and it made me angry. The song is terrible!! I don't understand I guess...Where has the good music gone.
