iTunes Review

Why waste time thinking up noms de guerre when you can just add change a J to a Y? Moved to say something upon the death of George Harrison, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James recorded these six Harrison tunes, four from Harrison’s masterwork, All Things Must Pass, in 2001. Making liberal use of a ghost-like echo on the vocal tracks, James’ heartfelt tribute is spare and somber, mostly just voice and acoustic guitar although James does successfully add a banjo to “Love You To.” The most famous tune here, “My Sweet Lord,” is a near-religious experience, kind of a hosanna plea with James' tenor becoming particularly grief-infused and piercing in the later verses. “Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Fall),” written by Harrison about the former owner of the house that he eventually purchased, also has a marvelous effect as James extols Harrison in the ringing, almost sanctified high range of his voice, honoring his spirit as much as his music. James at his most ethereal.

Classic Jim James

by FinkleRoy

To the people who are saying "This sounds nothing like the originals by George Harrison": The point of a tribute album isn't to replicate the music, the artist wants to make each song his own while still paying tribute. That being said, Jim James (Yim Yames) did this perfectly. He made these songs so hauntingly amazing, and it sounds very much like old MMJ (Tennessee Fire) This is an amazing EP

Great EP

For the people that dont like the reverb, you should preview the songs before you purchase. And for MMJ fans, this is like their old album At Dawn, just like the review says. Yes, the name is silly, but the record is flawless. Its good to see other musicians appreciate the best member of the Beatles.

whiny ... very hollow... disappointing

this is horrible ... everyone of these songs sounds the same ... not good. i hope that olivia and dhani do not have to suffer listening to this trash. bob boylan should be ashamed ... he has wet himself promoting this recording as he tends to do with a lot of "artsy" blokes. shame, shame, shame.
