iTunes Review

These Australian retro-rockers channel AC/DC, the Stones and plenty of glam and boogie until they find their own peculiar joy within the riffs. The unexpected success of their debut album back in 2003 created unrealistic expectations for a band not looking to re-invent rock n’ roll but to give it a few joyriding spins. Which they do in fine style here with the Knack-like “My Sharona” groove of “She’s a Genius,” the easy-yet-agitated and excited flow of “Beat On Repeat,” the tough-guy-with-power-chord hard rock of “Black Hearts (On Fire),” the sex-grind-wink of “Start the Show,” and the keyboard-highlighting “La Di Da.” One need not know the references to enjoy the show. In fact, it’s a safe bet, Jet are hoping to be many listener’s first introduction to the rock tradition. And they’re not without their own aspirations to finding new sounds and new ground as the girl-group pop of “Seventeen” merges with hard-rock chords and ethereal keyboards with admirable success.

No contemporary band does classic rock better than JET. Shaka Rock is a great example of how far JET has come, and how far JET will go. My favorite tracks are Seventeen, La Di Da, and Times Like This.

The JET Crashed

by <groover>

No survivors, this album is pure crap. I hate Shaka Rock as much I loved Get Born. Shine On? What? That was crap also, worse than Shaka Rock. A "nothing to say" band. Dont buy it, don't even borrow it from a friend.
