"1984" Gets A Soundtrack

by black.lace.and.truffles.

Way to go, Muse. Instead of taking Orwell's masterpiece and turning into a sermon about disastrous future prophecies and the fall of mankind, they created a respectable, musically pleasing album not only inspired by, but based on "!984." And, to make matters even better, the music alone is fantastic.

From their anthem, "United States of Eurasia," to their mention of "love as the resistance" and "Thought Police" in "The Resistance," this album is a both musically stunning, literature-enticing album for nerds and dystopian novel fan alike.

If you haven't read George Orwell's "1984," I highly suggest the avid Muse fan quickly does. Not only will it heighten your appreciation of such an album, but enlighten your mind as well.

Best songs: The "Symphony" trilogy. Stunning and meaningful. Buy this album.

Interesting Fusion of Rock and Classical- Absolutely Fantastic!

I love this album! It's one of the most artistic interpretations of rock that I have ever heard. Muse creatively intertwines hip-hop beats, french art song, choral harmonies, Chopin preludes, and Beethoven-esque piano riffs with rock in such a way that the educated listener is amiss to classify it in any one particular genre. It takes you on a journey through musical history, and evades the limitations of typical rock. Despite it's uniqueness, this album is not without the dud (or two). "Resistance" and "Guiding Light" seem to be the standout misses with this album, absent of any real harmonic or lyric interest. Despite the two "duds", the album is well worth the small price and is wholeheartedly reccommended! Give it a listen; you'll be sure to find it an interesting addition to your musical collection.
