iTunes Review

Lucero’s sixth full-length features more of the tough, hard-driving barroom rock they have delivered for nearly a decade. What they do is not unique — early Bruce Springsteen with the E Street Band, the Replacements, the Black Crowes, and the Hold Steady are good comparisons — but they do it extremely well. This is their first release for a major label yet they’ve lost none of their edge or passion during the transition, so longtime fans can rest easy. One notable change is the introduction of horns, which give rockers like “Sounds of the City,” “Sixes and Sevens,” and “The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo” added punch and texture. The best tunes (“Smoke,” “What Are You Willing to Lose,” “Can’t Feel a Thing,” “Johnny Davis”) combine powerful guitar riffs and keyboards with sharp lyrics about beautiful losers, tough luck kids, and doomed love, all delivered by the soulful, scratchy vocals of singer Ben Nichols. Those looking for smart, fist-pumping, no frills rock ‘n’ roll would do well to visit 1372 Overton Park.

Lose the horn section

by minus4153

I saw Lucero live recently, before I had the chance to hear this album. I was un-pleasantly surprised by newly added horn section. It felt like Lucero was trying to be too big. They're missing that organic quality they used to have. I don't think this was a good progression.

Great Album.

This is a great album. More upbeat than some of Lucero's past work.
Everyone claiming the album was ruined by the brass section is crazy, don't be swayed by their negitive opinions. This album is definatly worth picking up. The band has clearly progressed over the years, expirimenting with horns is an example of that. If you love Lucero--give 1372 a listen--it does not disappoint.

1372 Overton Park

Honest as a big ol' tumbler of whiskey and just as intoxicating. Hands down the purest rock band around. Overton Park takes off where Rebels, Rouges and Sworn Brothers left us a few years ago. Stripped down alt-country it ain't but if you think Lucero is simply Tennesse you are missing the point. Buy this album; go see this band; tell your friends. They are that good.
