nothing short of amazing

this is not something you will regret buying. this is one of the best, if not the best album to come out this year. here is my rating by song:

monster monster- 5/5 punkish sounding. good beat.
lonely wheel- 5/5 very catchy. good chorus
no i dont- 3.5/5 my least favorite. too repetive and it seems like nothing goes together
hands-4.5/5 in the album version of this song (vs. the EP version) the chorus isnt as powerful.
young again-5/5 in my top 3 favorites. another punkish one. amazing vocals.
summer summer-4/5 repetitive but very good.
hand granade-5/5 countrish sound. its really good even though i dont like country. softest song.
books &books- 5/5 a sort of underoath sound to it. stunning vocals and chorus
souls on ten- 5/5 my favorite on the album. catchy piano and chorus
want to- 4/5 sounds alot like lonely wheel. its not really up to par in comparison
get through- 5/5 i love the off beat. another punkish song. this is in my top 3
monster- 4.5/5 i think it takes too long to get to the break down. but thats just me
me and me alone- 3.5/5 doesnt really live up to the rest of the album. but its decent.

this album is a must buy. its very diverse unlike southern weather.

Not nearly as good as Southern Weather

Okay, let me start off by saying that I may have had my expectations for this album a bit too high so if I sound a bit harsh at times, thats why.

Anyways, Monster Monster seems to be suffering from an identity crisis. Southern Weather was very reminiscent of Aaron Gillepsie's other band, Underoath. It was like a new take on the same style. This album though seems like it's trying to fit in with the rest of the alternative rock/emo community. And it lost something because of it. It's uniqueness. Most of the songs seem bland and unoriginal. There are a couple gems such as Summer Summer, Hands, Lonely Wheel, and Hand Grenade, but nothing seems to hit as hard, or have as much depth as just about any song off Southern Weather. I understand why though. This album was much more of a "band" effort. Meaning that people other than only Aaron himself had an influence on it's style. Southern Weather was wholly and completely inspired by Aaron, and you could tell it too. The entire album had an Underoath feel to it. I was hoping Monster Monster would take that one step further and expand upon that feel. But instead, it turned into something that it's not.

All the criticisms aside, I can't hate Monster Monster completely. It does have it's moments. But unfortunately, there just isn't that many of them. I'm not gonna give up on this band just yet though. I still think they're awesome and I hope the next album goes back to it's roots a bit.

Monster Monster is Amazing

Beautiful, catchy and Aaron Gillespie is one of the greatest musicians right now. This album is about never being alone in the world, and never been judged or seen negatively in our imperfect times by God. You don't even have to believe in God to appreciate the beauty of this album.

Biography

Formed: 2005 in Salt Lake City, UT

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

The Almost is an emo solo project by Aaron Gillespie, drummer and occasional lead singer for Underoath, the Christian metalcore outfit he co-founded in 1998. Choosing to come out from behind the skins like his idol Dave Grohl before him, the Florida-bred Gillespie (who relocated to Salt Lake City in early 2007, following his marriage) wanted to explore a different outlet for his songwriting outside of his hard-hitting main gig. Written as Underoath was recording their critically acclaimed 2006 album...
