Best random pick up in a while
by TriaxI haven't really bought or listened to drum and bass in over 7 years. I bought this after hearing a few tracks on dnbtv and I am happy with the purchase. I have a few old Blu Mar Ten tracks from the logical progression series, but their sound has definitely matured and I am glad they decided to go less atmospheric (and as another commenter noted "darker") in this release. If you were ever a fan of drum and bass you will dig these tracks.
Dope
by Skunk//ApeLike a previous reviewer said it, the album isn't quite classic Blu Mar Ten. I, however, will have to say it's one of the best Drum and Bass offerings of the year. The whole album melds together well as a whole, however every song on here could be played out. I had been anxiously awaiting this album for months before it came out and am very happy to see it come out as it did. After spending three days listening to this album almost exclusively I'll have to say it's a 4.5 out of 5. Buy it.
Awesome, with a caveat.
by AilurophileStraight from the Drum and Bass veterans who are well known across the dance scene for their emotional originals and classic remixes like Architex's 'Altitude' comes another technically, and aurally beautiful masterpiece. This album isn't quite classic Blu Mar Ten in the fact that it really lacks one or two of those real mellow chill-out or downtempo type tracks. The closest to that feel this time around is probably 'If I Could Tell You'. It's all Drum and Bass this time otherwise, but that's certainly not a bad thing! They've even managed to go exploring the darker realm this release.
The variety ranges from your typical atmospheric style Blu Mar Ten tracks with angelic vocals like the opener, 'Starting Over' to some techmospheric features as heard in 'Clipjoint' and the even darker oriented tunes like 'Grey Area'. The best part of a Blu Mar Ten album has always been their eclectic style and fearlessness when it comes to exploring multiple genres or in this case sub-genres. This one is certainly no different and I would recommend this album to ANY Drum and Bass fan. Scratch that. I would recommend this to ANY dance music fan. You can tell the trio really put a lot of work in to the gem and it's certainly worth every penny.
I also suggest getting the digital album because the two bonus tracks are as incredible as the rest of the album. For the price of this album, it's a steal and I'm happy to support an act who has been through every age of atmospheric drum and bass and still manages to keep up with the pace while throwing in their own flavor and trying new things.
*NOTE* Please read the last section before purchase.
Now, after all the glowing reviews, the caveat. The digital release has been botched. Particularly the tracks 'Last Dance' and 'Overwhelm' end abruptly at very odd points and clearly before they were intended. Sadly, as these are two of the best tunes on the album. Also, the banger of a tune 'Bedroom Eyes' only comes in at 37 seconds. Blu Mar Ten is working with their digital distributor to get this resolved A.S.A.P. but if you are planning on buying the digital version, I would wait until it is fixed. It's still an amazing album, I just want everyone to experience it for the glory in it's entirety! Check the track times for 'Bedroom Eyes' if it is not 37 seconds, then it is probably fixed. Enjoy. :)
