Album Review
The Ultimate Collection nearly lives up to its billing, featuring 22 tracks on a single disc. Among the featured cuts are all of Gladys Knight & the Pips' Top Ten pop hits for Soul Records, including "Everybody Needs Love," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "The End of Our Road," "It Should Have Been Me," "The Nitty Gritty," "Friendship Train," "I Don't Want to Do Wrong," "If I Were Your Woman," and "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)." For most casual fans, those who just want the hits, this will be the definitive collection of Knight's early career.

GREATEST ALBUM EVER MADE
by sin000Gladys Knight and the Pips were (and still are) one of the greatest R&B groups still enjoyed by the millons of fans today.I have been listening to Gladys and her boys for a VERY long time (by my parents' CD'S ) .They're so good .I just cannot express them in words.
If you like the Surpremes,Jackson 5 ,or any other grroup of that genre of that time frame, I certainly reccomend getting this album. Hope you enjoy.
Great Album
by Love the soulGladys Knight is one of my favorit singers this album is great to buy. It has all her great hits. ONly one problem I love the pips but i wish she would get rid of them they are so corny
Somewhat Pointless Starter Kit
by r&bbanditIf You want Gladys and the Pips Motown singles catalog, I think it would be worthwhile to drop the additional $8 and get the Anthology Best Of. Everything on this one is on that one, except TIME TO GO NOW. ( The B' side of 'Grapevine').PLUS ANTHOLOGY includes the hot 1970 remakes of their PRE-MOTOWN, EVERYBEAT OF MY HEART, LETTER FULL OF TEARS, and GIVING UP. On both collections, Motown, for no apparent reason, opts to include the edited version of ALL I NEED IS TIME, which totally ruins the song. One interesting thing about this lp is ALL the songs are the mono single edits. So you do get to hear exactly what we heard on the radio back in the day but in most cases, there was quite a bit of orchestration either added to the lp versions or just omitted from the singles release. Very noticeable in YOU NEED LOVE LIKE I DO and FRIENDSHIP TRAIN. But from a fan who bought these records when they were originally released, I still highly recommend the ANTHOLOGY BEST OF. If for their interpretations of FEELIN' ALRIGHT and Etta James' ALL I COULD DO WAS CRY alone!
