When Carbon Leaf Began
by JBTunezDiscovered Carbon Leaf within the past few years & was interested to explore their 'beginnings & evolution'. This CD was 'self-published' in 1995 & was actually better than I expected ! Great quality/production. Interesting choice of songs. There are a couple of forays into some very odd ‘head-banger-snarling-vocal’ songs which I am glad they got out of their system. Very apparent R.E.M. influence. They were a college/bar/backyard party band early 1990s so several cuts reflects that 'party jam' quality. Not much of the Celtic Rock influence that appears in later releases. The stuff that I particularly like contains elements very apparent in the recent stuff (I am primarily familiar w/ the latest 2 CDs 2007-2009) - including almost identical riffs & lyric bits.
Recommended cuts (in my humble opinion) are: Live Like You, Directional, Clockwork, One Day, Kettle, PaperThin & Shellfish.
Not bad for a first album
by MelonoActually this was not first released in '02 but 1995 and it was there first album.
Good purchase for a long time listener
by katief1023it was a good album to add to my collection but i would suggest that people just getting into carbon leaf should go for their more recent album releases first.
