Strong Solo Debut Effort
by JavaMusiKThis 1998 debut release showcases nearly 20 years worth of composing/arranging that Jeff needed to record. As a first effort, the piano stands out as a solo instrument with only a slight string arrangement added in a couple numbers. Highlighted with a stirring arrangement of Simple Gifts, Ascend does offer up some memorable moments sure to capture the attention of any discreet listener. Comparisons could be made to George Winston & Elton John with this release, but Jeff Van Devender does have his own sound which is worthy of your consideration.
