iTunes Review

Rolling on stately rhythms of brooding grandeur, Coldplay made good on its initial promise with an outstanding sophomore album. A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002) kept faith with the band’s audience by further mining the lyric depths and sonic chasms heard on their debut Parachutes. Echoing the stark atmospherics of Pink Floyd and the emotionally unguarded vocals of Brian Wilson in his prime, Coldplay creates music of austere power throughout this album. Singer Chris Martin’s luminous falsetto achieves an aching poignancy on tracks like “Politik” and “Amsterdam,” lending elusive colors to his elliptical lyrics. There’s a majestic power to the band’s stripped-down ensemble playing, whether they’re unreeling a loping groove on “In My Place,” weaving a swirling melody on “Clocks” or painting a bleak aural landscape on the title track. “God Put A Smile On Your Face” may be the album’s high point – Martin’s spiritual intimations mesh with the shimmering flow of the track flawlessly — amid the incisive playing and quiet intensity throughout.

Politik - Superb, banging chorus with a good contrast between that and the soft verses. Great song.

In My Place - Absolute CLASSIC Coldplay. Simple, yet amazing music backed with moving vocals.

God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - One of Coldplay's more darker songs, but still a rich song all in all.

The Scientist - What a lovely song this is! Beautiful piano + tender vocals = Coldplay excellence.

Clocks - No compliment could sufficiently praise this song at its worth...'nuff said.

Daylight - Pretty cool almost Arabic guitar riffs, good driving beat. Excellent.

Green Eyes - Not very well known Coldplay song, yet still meets expecations of goodness. Beautiful song.

Warning Sign - Not really all that original for Coldplay, but still a solid piece. Well Done!

A Whisper - Excellent guitars, great drums. Good upbeat song.

A Rush of Blood To The Head - Title song that lives up to album's name. Growing song (i.e starts off slow and soft and builds up), awesome chorus.

Amsterdam - Utterly amazing end song for this album. Tender vocals. Lovley song.

Clocks=genius, pure gunius

I don't really like this album, but I love coldplay. The only two songs on this album I like are clocks and the scientist. Clocks is genius, and I love that song so much. Coldplay is amazing.
