Album Review

Vocalist/pianist Diana Krall was a very hot property by the time this Impulse CD was released. Teamed in a trio with her regular guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Christian McBride, Krall here mostly emphasizes ballads having something to do with love. She is at her best on "I Don't Know Enough About You," "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You," and "How Deep Is the Ocean." However, Krall's earlier Nat King Cole tribute had more variety in tempos and moods and is recommended first. A decent but not essential release.

Best interpretation of Gentle Rain

by naplesflman

Having listened to this CD many times, I recently became enthralled by Gentle Rain. Researching it's history and other artists I've become convinced that this rendition by Diana Krall is far and away the captor of the essense of the emotion and pathos of this original Getz era tune. Absolutely a spectacular addition to any lover of the female jazz vocalist's collection. I put it on my top 10 along with Kind of Blue - Miles Davis and Bremen - Lucerne Concerts - Keith Jarrett.

No drums ... a good thing!

by Scott001

This review may not be helpful to most people, but I'll give it a go anyway: I play jazz drums, and since not a single track on this album has any drums, it is an excellent practice play-along tool, especially for those jazz drummers who are not as advanced as, say, Art Blakey, Tony Williams, Buddy Rich, or Max Roach. Again, that may not be enough for most people to purchase this, but if you know someone who plays jazz drums, pass this along. Peace.

I am a huge fan of all of her work. This one is a the best. If you do not have this- it is a must. Peel me a grape- hands down FABULOUS!
